it personal preference and fit mostly. you can spend a ton or relatively little. i would get one that is hans compatible so in the future you can use the device if you want.

i would say a year of racing season so much harder use. looking worn as in banged up or chipped doesnt really have anything to do with their strength. i would say using for hpde 2 years is fine but depends how diligent you are about everything. lots of items wear and should be replaced also. wheels for one.

in the event of a crash in a car with airbags. when racing you sit so close to the wheel a closed is preferable so doesnt cause such an impact to your face. Also you drive with windows open and very often you have stuff flying into the car, small rocks, chunks of rubber, that can and will hit you in the face. last thing you want is getting hit in the eye with something causing a crash. you can do either i also just prefer closed. open face is for entry level, and a cheap option usually for most that soon gets replaced. Hans compatibilty is also a concern for some.

I have an open face helmet that is Hans compatible (BELL). I prefer open face because I wear glasses and it is much easier to put on. While 1MOREMOD's argument are valid, I don't believe that open or close face helmets make a big difference in a closed cockpit car like ours: People don't wear helmets driving around town with an airbag in front of their face and the chance of a flying object entering your car is close to nil.
There's no doubt a close face helmet is probably a safer option. Not by much though. Personal choice, really. Both are accepted at HPDEs.

ORP
Turn 2 has a two day event coming up April 27-28th at ORP that looks interesting. Emailing Tom last week it sounds as though they are considering running CW one day and CCW the other! They will take a vote to determine. I have to tell you that this is an opportunity to run what is considered the two best tracks in the NW........easily the two best. I am chomping at the bit to get to ORP and running both ways would be ideal! Who else is thinking of attending this event?

yes they are. I'm going to try and do more Ridge days now though.
Anyone coming for the April 22nd at Ridge? I just signed up and got a day off from work! My brake pads get here Friday so will have the weekend to install and bed them. |

ORP, The Ridge and Pacific are all a ~2.5 hour drive from Portland. Thunder hill is 7.5 and it is worth the trip at least once a year. ORP is better than Thunder Hill so I would encourage Seattle/Washington people to make the trip at least once. (Make sure it is a two day event)
