So in the two days since I posted this I've done a 180 and am seriously considering OS Giken Spec S now. Either way I go would likely just get the carrier and install myself, I know it's a fine thing but I've done rod bearings before (on my previous e92 m3) and feel I can handle it. That said if my work gets busy again I may let a local trusted shop do it. I have messaged with Florian quite a bit in the past and for a dedicated track car would likely go his direction, he absolutely knows these diffs backwards and forwards, check his Instagram also, he's started posting a lot - limitedslip.de. Still pursuing my dream street + track build at the moment though and thinking the Giken may be more what I am looking for. Fwiw, I'm investigating sourcing it from a company in Japan that is having a pretty good sale right now, will report back with final pricing once I have it.

There are some other parts needed btw, different axle half shafts, seals, and bearings. You can re-use the seals and bearings but may as well refresh them while in there. Then of course fresh diff fluid as well.

Will share more about this as I go.

Gotcha ok, I have ordered and used a LS.de Diff in the past on my e46m3, but I wasn't ready for it as a driver and only got a few laps on it. That was over 3 years ago.

The only thing I would caution you is shimming and preload. It can be detrimental to the diff if you mess that up.

FWIW, I did exactly the opposite. Have used the OSG in the past, was planning to buy one again for this car... after reading up on the drexler I decided to give it a shot. Florian provided all the bearings, seals, stub axles, etc. I assembled it in my oem housing.

I’ve been very very happy with the LSD. Works great, quiet, smooth, plenty of lockup. I’m probably 10k miles an 10-15 days on track with it. I don’t think you can go wrong either way.

Interested to hear what are the advantages of the Drexler over the OSG Superlock that you noticed. Was your OSG in an M3 or some other car?

Picked up a folding workbench I've been eyeballing for a little while now. Very handy for those with limited garage space. I was always hurting for a place to put parts I'm working on and usually ended up just sitting on the ground with parts.

Are you going to drill holes into it to make it lighter?

He'll probably bring it to the track, so would make sense to keep it light.

Awesome table Mike!

so this appears to be a slight variant. this is also what i paid for it. the model i have has a lower shelf under the main wood worktop.

i only had a few minutes with it after putting the legs on and cleaning up the styrofoam nuggets and cutting up the box. its pretty sturdy and well put together. i might put higher quality wheels on it with better locks. my garage has a slight slope to it and the driveway has a pretty good increasing slope towards the street and i don't want this thing taking off with my plenum or drill press on it. folding it and unfolding it is really easy.

Yes. And the results are that it helped me improve and lower my lap times by seconds, I just wasn't driving the car to its limits. It really was like having "free" (the cost of the Apex) performance upgrades on my cars. I'm still not at 10/10ths, maybe 8/10ths on a great day, but it has honestly helped me.

It takes a few days to get used to seeing the lights in your peripheral vision as you're cornering where the Apex does its work, you're looking left and right, eyes up and down the track. There are settings to let you ease up to the limits once it learns your car's grip levels.

I used it this year in both my E36 and E92. The lights helped me push the limits a bit more while on track, which was confirmed by the data off track showing where I could make better time.

Apex now supports video from your phone, and track map availability is great. Andrew (from Apex) responded quickly to questions I had along the journey this year. Battery lasts all day. I'd recommend getting a cheap iPhone 7 or later (Android user here) as iPhone has the full feature support vs basic stuff on the Android app. CrewView is neat if you like comparing lap times with strangers, or convince a friend to buy one as well! I was a little skeptical at first, but really pleased with the purchase.

Example pics showing how you are looking away from the Apex in turns, so you have to see it in your peripheral vision.
One red light shows I have more grip available:

All green shows I'm at max grip, but two blank lights confirm I have the Apex in a lower setting. I did not break traction. So now I know I can increase the setting (full green lights) in future sessions to confirm more grip is available:

Very helpful review.
i prefer no to mess with the iPhone so will speak to Andrew. I saw enough YouTube with Andrew that I feel like I know the guy :-)

One alternative is to program your AIM Solo DL's lights to do the same thing. I'm not well-versed in how those work, but you could probably do something with the lights indicating how close you are to maximum Gsum.

This is what I thought, But I could not find away to put a complex formula into the light conditions.

I am guessing is that the EVO5/DL does not have the horsepower to do calculations in real time.

The ApexPro device is said to do 12,000 calc/sec in real time

Maybe the Solo can't do it, but I know the bigger ones can have the colored LEDs show different ranges of values. Most commonly it's RPM, but I don't see why you couldn't do green = 1.0g, yellow = 1.1g, orange = 1.2g, red = 1.3g, or whatever.

Don't think so. When I looked yesterday the only options for the lights was RPM or predictive lap timing. I wanted to see if I could set them up to be something different as well, but couldn't find anywhere to set a new/different value.

Dang, maybe not. The bigger AIM units do have more configuration options, I guess the Solo doesn't offer that.

I could be wrong, but I looked and couldn't find a way. You're probably right that only the higher level AiM units offer it.
