My car (sedan) was 3650+ without me in the car and I have a 50 lb dumb bell on the roof. Or so it feels like when going side to side.

I am 'relieved' that the car is one of the heaviest out there. This acts as a fantastic buffer and saves the skull Fing on looking at mods etc: "you see your car is greatly handicapped, why modify it any further..." Otherwise I would have another TTA monster in the garage. Lutfy Last edited by lutfy; 06-23-2015 at 09:31 AM.. |

Big range light to heavy on these cars when you think about where you can range from the lightest E92 to the heaviest E90 (ignoring the verts). Stock as a rock with all the trunk junk and a full tank my '08 6 speed with light options (premium/cold weather only) was 3666. With a few mods and removing the manuals, spare tire goo, tools, mats, etc., it's down around 3580 with a full tank.
BMW says DCT on the E90 is 20kg = 46lb. The bigger spread is for the F8x which uses a much lighter 6-speed

Here to crash the party again
Car: 2009 E92 335i Automatic Track/Course: Gingerman Raceway Brakes: PF08 pads, ATE Type 200, SS Brake Lines, Meyle Blank Rotors Tires (Size & Model): 265/35r18 Front, 275/35r18 Rear, Hankook R-S3 Suspension: TC Kline DA Coilovers (-3 Front, -2 Rear), E93 M3 Front Sway, M3 Front and Back Control and Lower Camber Arms, Whiteline Rear Subframe Bushings Other Mods: LSD, Downpipes, Exhausts, FMIC, DCI Intake, Full E85 w/ Port Injection Best Lap Time: 1:46.08, managed to beat my personal best from last year by 1 second, but still think there is some room for improvements in my driving on this track. Overall, pretty happy with the car and the lap times. Only complaints are the sub-optimal stock brakes (even with race pads) on the E9x cars and these ZF automatics could be a little quicker with the manual downshifts. Interestingly, I was able to brake a lot harder with the slotted rotors that I run last year.

What kind of power is that thing making? It seems noticibly faster than my M grunting down those straights for sure and your speeds going into the braking zones are pretty high especially on that back straight. Also how did you like the new pavement? Going there in a few weeks and excited to see if the pavement changes anything. |

My guess is the car puts down about 400-420whp, so 470bhp at the crank. Peak tq comes as early as 3500-4000rpms but the power drops off after 5700rpm, so the power delivery is quite different from the S65. As you can probably see, the car pulls very quickly out of the corner due to the strong midrange, but not so much at the straights once the rpm approach the rev limit.

Your car is considerably quicker than an M once you get on the straight, so your power (and I agree torque coming out of the turns) is a big help. Here is a video I found of an E90 M3 with suspension, pads and NT01s. You have like 5mph on him on the back straight! This is a pretty clean lap and may show you a few of the areas you have time on the table yet... I'm going to use it as a reference when I go in July since our cars are pretty similar. |

Would definitely like to see more data from similar car setups on the new surface!

Agree he V2 doesn't take a licking and keep on ticking like the first ones. They biased the new compound and construction toward autocross and better wet traction

Just came back from WGI. It was my first time running with Chin Motorsports, and i have to say that now it may be my second favorite club next to SCDA.
Very organized, drivers meeting was one of the best i have ever attended. I was in a red run group(advanced solo) as always, but it was the first time i wished i was in the intermediate group. Here is the list of cars i was running against: Two nascar cup cars, 2012 Ferrari 458 challenge, e46m3 full race car, e36m3 full race car, Audi r8 v10, porsche cayman S full race car, boss 302S, C6 Z 06 and a few others i dont remember now. Most of them were on fresh Hoosiers R6 or R7s. My Car: 2009 e92 m3. Set up: Ohlins R&T w/ street GC c. plates, catless midpipe paired with akra muffler, ESS 550 vt-1 kit, stock calipers w/PFC rotors and 08 pads, SRF brake fluid, Apex wheels with 265/285 BFG R1 tires. No weight reduction other than akra muffler. My tires had about 17 heat cycles in them, so they were not good to begin with. As expected, my best lap time came in the first session of the first day: 1 min. 24 sec. They were running short course, no T6,7,8 and 9. My lap times gradually got worst as my tires were losing grip and at the end of the second day my best lap time was 1:31. Just to compare, best lap time of one of the cup cars was 1:16 and Ferrari was at 1:19. It was amazing watching them blow by me and disappear very quickly. I wanted to post a video, but my suction cup that was holding my iPhone broke before i even mounted it. My best lap time on a full course with fresh R1 tires was 2:10, just for the reference. Was running short course for the first time, and already very fast road course got even faster, as all the reletively slow corners vere removed. My average speed of my fastest lap was 115 mph, and i have to say that my head was spinning after every 30 min session. Average speed of Ferrari was 124 mph . I know because i was parked next to him. He was from Toronto. Overall, it was a great event, very well orginized, and i highly recommend Chin Motorsports as a club to run with. Last edited by Groundpilot; 07-17-2015 at 02:24 PM.. |

Chin is a favorite group to run with, been instructing for them at Road Atlanta, Barber, and VIR. Safe, well organized, and always have fast cars running in Red.

Just got back from Gingerman. I only got in one session on the new tires (take off pirelli's) and also one session where I remembered to actually turn on Harry's Lap Timer. I got a 1:44.42.
Stock powertrain, stoptechs, clubsports, and the take off Pirelli DHs. I am a decent driver but I definitely left a few seconds on the table as I need much more seat time to get used to the new suspension and sticky tires (I've only ever driven on street tires before). With the Pirelli's and KWs its total insanity how early you can get on the gas. |

"LM3" in the vid above is yours truly. I'm headed out there for the first time this season this coming Monday. Look forward to trying out the repave, but I don't know what I'll do without some of my old pavement reference points. You can use the times in this article as reference points, though this was pre-repave. http://www.automobilemag.com/feature...erican-hustle/ Camaro Z28 is a 1:41.8 with a professional driver. As you probably know, that's about as track prepped a street car as you can get w/ 505 hp, so I'm not actually sure how much room there is for improvement with E9X and our mods. I've done countless laps around Gingerman. Feel like faster than the 1:42.7 in my vid above would require larger cojones and probably involve risks I'm unwilling to take... Maybe the repave will be an assist. We'll see.
