You're hearing a lot lately Mike.

We do not have a dyno at the shop yet. You probably know that.

It wasn't during the BMW CCA event and we didn't attend that event either.

It was last Saturday at independent dyno shop.

Just to clear it up so you are not confused

Hi Alex,

I have no idea if you have a dyno or not.

No confusion here, but it looks like Sam might be confused about IAT temperatures, that is what prompted this discussion.

Hi Alex,

I have no idea if you have a dyno or not. I know you run a fine shop and do quality work based on pictures and mutual people we know.

No confusion here, but it looks like Sam might be confused about IAT temperatures, that is what prompted this discussion.
Thanks for kind words!

Glad you are not confused! Your "confused" smiley face in the previous post made me want to clear it up for you!

Cheers!
Aleks.

See above. This is all dandy but I didn't feel $1000 worth of placebo awesomeness.

Thanks Sal. I'm not sure what happened. Regardless, I have received the new file you sent today.

I will flash the car to 240E and drive it around to get some new impressions of the tune. Hopefully I'll be more impressed than last time.
What most people "feel" with tunes is the throttle mapping changes made by most tuners, the more agressive the tuner is with this calibration the more power the driver thinks he is getting. There is no way that 10-15 hp is going to transform your car into a monster all of a sudden. The small increase in added power is nice if and when you make it but even if you pick up a little power the car is not going to feel night and day like some people claim in their reviews with this alone. A little better response from the throttle, a little more power and some custom options are what you should expect from a proper tune on this motor.

A good tune should improve the way the car performs and feels but people should set their expectations accordingly, buy from a reputable tuner and not get wrapped up in the questionable reviews often posted on the internet. For those that have been around for awhile they will recall the old Powerchip reviews where person after person posted how fantastic that tune was only later to find out that the tune was not what they thought. No real dyno info showing gains, false claims of custom tuning, OBD issues and in the end what they were reviewing was in all likelihood just throttle mapping. Now that company is nowhere to be found.

I don't think anyone who reviewed these tunes especially the BPM by Mike Benvo have claimed power hikes. They are talking about the drivability improving and it's everywhere ... doesn't matter when and where you put the foot down. The whole feel ... the experience ... and something different. That's what we're talking here. Hey, if there is some hp to be gain from this as a by-product I will take it. I wanted something different, and I have got it to use when I want. People here are not trying to promote a particular tune over another, they are just ecstatic that the car feels different after a particular tune and sharing it with the rest of the community on the forum. That's what these forums are there for. Let's give it a rest, shall we.

Well said. That is exactly what I got out Mike's tune on my car.

I have been reading this forum for several years along with many others when I had my E46 M3 and before I got into the E92. I just started posting recently. You can also use this neat feature on this forum and others called search and look up old threads from years ago. Actually when you think about it I have been reading this forum longer than and posting close to the same amount of time some "tuners" have been tuning M3's.

I think when someone posts that their car all of a sudden has no traction and that they are much faster than other cars after installing a tune that is a reference to power and not not "feel". You have confirmed what I said in that what you "feel" is throttle mapping changes as throttle mapping is felt "everywhere". It is very simple, if the car is not making alot more power "everywhere" where exactly do you think this "feel" of improved performance is coming from? The only things that needs to be given a rest is the "feel" feedback being sold as some tuning magic when in reality it is something very simple. It is the same "feel" people had with powerchip software and the same "feel" they have with Sprintbooster type products and others. My co-worker has a Sprintbooster style product on his M5 and according to him the car is soo much faster now and im sure if I ask him he will tell me it's felt "everywhere"

These forums are also for people to express a different POV than you or I. So the OP believes that NA tunes are marginal at best for power gains and that most of the other claims a NA tune does to improve drivability are probably a little over hyped a times, sounds about right to me, and that goes for any tune, to suggest someone is a hater because they may think this way is nonsense.

I can however understand why people who run the BPM tune, and may have written reviews about how incredible it is might get a little upset or defensive about how the OP claimed that the reviews that are written appear to be staged or exaggerated. I can also understand how Benvo would come in here and defend his product. However, for those of us who believe an NA tune does little to change the car in a substantial way, are certainly not haters, or poo poo, lol.

Dinan claims 9hp and 8ft tq with there tunes, i called my regional Dinan rep and he said these are real numbers and there not in the business to post false advertisement, and im willing to bet Mikes Tunes are better then the Dinan tunes so there is power gains, and thats not including the other benefits that come along with his tunes.

There have been many, many butt dynos proving the gains, but I would like to see more dynojet dynos in SAE even if tuners say dyno results don't fully reflect the benefits of the tune.
