Before everyone jumps to 241E, know that 240E is the preferable tune file.
I believe I read somewhere that 241E was worse due to some emissions changes. I am not sure exactly, however 240E with the MSS60 adaptations the car does with mods will bring you close to some tuners and it is from BMW. |

How bad is 241E? Maybe it doesn't make max power, but it's not detrimental to the car right?

I was curious why some tunes on his website mention safety settings in the disclaimer and the E92 M3 one lacks that information. Check it out. Other tunes mention : "Factory safety parameters and diagnostics systems all intact with fuel sensing adaptions." https://alpinemss.com/products/e9x-m...tune-2007-2013 https://alpinemss.com/collections/bm...3-m4-2014-2020 The E92 disclaimer lacks that. I wanted to be sure I knew what I was buying but couldn't get an answer. I would love to buy the tune, but I have yet to get a clear answer on that. |

The change from 240E to 241E reflects only a change in the program file (from 7848125.0pa to 7854317.0pa). All of the parameter files (*.0da), the ones specifying values for ignition, injection, VANOS etc, are the same. Probably TLDR but this is easy to verify by inspecting the datens - the parameter file names are the same in "240" datens like v53.3 and "241E" datens like v60.1. Furthermore, all of BMW program and parameter files are in BINHEX format, meaning you can read them with a text editor like Notepad and they include text notes in addition to code. In fact, the $REFERENZ numbers written in those parameter files include "240E" - there was no updating of the parameter files beyond 240E. |

just for the benefit of the audience, would you mind sharing why you think 240E is preferable? I saw you mention it to deansbimmer in another thread. |

Circling back on this - finally got the bimmergeeks pro cable. Before flashing I wanted to test the connection was solid using INPA. Initially had issues getting INPA to detect the cable despite the usual issues being correct - COMM1, Latency = 1 etc.
Turns out the default windows drivers for the cable where the problem. Using drivers from https://ftdichip.com/drivers/ fixed my problems. Turns out the car is running 241E so thats cool. I did flash the transmission module with the 7848442 file for the GTS DCT tune. Worked great. Highly recommend! Thanks to everyone who contributed to this thread to make this possible for folks like me. Obviously big shout out to SaNGRia for the initial writeup - you a real one :fistbump: |

dme no response from control unit
so i used mss6x flasher to take a full backup , flash the rsa bypass, and then remove the 1 byte to disable immo.
I then flashed this modified full backup back to the dme all went well, but sadly, it didnt fix my start issue. engine still just cranked but wouldnt start. So after exhausting my other options, i attempted a update with winkfp to wipe the mss6x flash, thinking maybe that was now an additional issue causeing car not to start. update got to 100% and then stopped with an error now my MSS60 ECU is not responsive. i tried with ident with tool32, tried inpa, winkfp, is there a certain specific command im suppose to be giving in tool32, or is there any other option to re-flash the dme? or im fked?

Sorry to bump an old thread but I'm having an issue as well.
I've used the wrong cable and therefore the update failed. DME shows red/unresponsive in ISTA. Car cranks but no start. If I get the correct cable, will I be able to rectify if myself/remotely or must the ECU be sent to somebody. I'm in Australia so that's why sending it will be a problem. Thanks in advance. |

Thank you.
I've ordered the cable from Bimmergeeks about two weeks ago, should hopefully get it in the next few weeks. I'm trying to get my post count up so I can pm when I get it but are you able to pm me a way to contact you if possible? Appreciate the help you're providing. |

I will send PM too if that is ok. Trying to help a friend do an update, i have now bricked his DME by using the cheap cable. I do have bimmergeeks and icom, but i generally use the cheap one with no issues. Any help would be appreciated. Will send PM

Thank you for these instructions! I was able to flash to 241E successfully. A few tips for anyone else attempting this in the future:
A cheaper and available cable that can do this flash is the Bimmer Tuning Tools K+DCAN cable ($39). When I was looking the $50 Bimmergeeks Pro cable was out of stock indefinitely and the more expensive Bimmergeeks expert is pretty much the same thing. These cables don't have any special hardware in them - they are the same cheap generic K+DCAN cable but flashed with patched firmware that fixes a bit corruption glitch and also runs at a faster speed. If you like tinkering you can even flash the patched firmware yourself with an arduino. With these updated cables the flash only takes 10 minutes or less. If you have a healthy battery that has been charged recently you can do it without a power supply backup (that's how I did mine). From what I've read the flashing process is designed to be robust - even if power was lost in the middle, the flash is recoverable - just start the process over when power is restored. You can use INPA to check what your current DME version is and compare against the dates in this post: (https://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=797020) You can check for your I-step Plant (what the car shipped with), Dealer (what the dealer flashed if it got updated at some point), and Backup. You can also check the MSS60 identification pages for a field named "DIF Injection" or "Programm-Stand". Mine was 0569QT0Z130EEKUV0 for example, the 130E in the end is my DME version (130E or 100E). I would add the following steps to the original instructions if you haven't run WinKFP before (or some of the buttons won't show up): Steps : 1- Hook up the Battery Charger 2- Connect the OBD cable to car and PC 3- Buckle Up Driver seat belt 4- Roll Down the Driver Window 5- Close the Door 6- Turn on the ignition (Do not Start the Car) 7- Open the Winkfp 8- Select Comfort Mode 9- Select Update ECU 10- Select Module (MSS60) 11- Write your 17 Digit Vin. << This button won't be there if you haven't configured WinKFP yet. Go to WinKFP configuration settings and check "UIF write in comfort mode", then re-start WinKFP and redo the steps. 11B- Select Done (or it won't proceed) 12- Select Prog ZUSB 13- Click Ok on the Pop Up screen (Which says The Users info field can still be programmed 62 times) 13- It will go 0-100 fast at the first stage than will start Flashing. (About 10 min) 14- Then another screen will pop up saying the same thing (The Users info field can still be programmed 62 times) Click OK again 15- It will take about 30 second to do another 0-100 16- ZUSB-Update programming OK message appears 17- Fuel Pump will be activated and you will have some errors stored in the ECUs. Mine is MT so i only got DSC Malfunction on iDrive and Cruise Control Symbol with Exclamation Mark on the KOMBI. After clearing the ECU Errors either with INPA or ISTA, should be all set. Do NOT attempt with regular DCAN cable if you do not want to fail on DME Update. I also found these youtube videos helpful for updating DATEN and importing DATEN into WinKFP: |

Would anyone be willing to help me get the software installed? I'd pay for your time. I downloaded something from Mega, but it's 100% in German and I read 0% of German.

Has anyone been able to modify the tables to code out the Secondary Air Pump? I have bimmer protools and was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction? Valves went bad so i might as well plug and delete SAP.

Read locked DME
Hate to hijack and revive this ancient piece of gold, but too much knowledge here not to try my luck.
Would you guys expect success following this guide with an EcuWorx cable, and attempt to flash back to stock 240e software from a read locked DME due to ESS software? And how do you guys pick the right ZB number / correct Daten files to import? Any insights would be appreciated.. |
