You’d still need the software tools to edit the map and know how to physically connect. It’s not via OBD. It’s not really something just anyone can do.

Been giving this some thought. While I don't track the car, it is my weekender - being able to use more of the rev range and having a bit more snap off the line interests me, as I doubt I will ever see this car's top speed - a worthwhile trade in my opinion (for what I use mine for anyways).

From the comments, I take it that 3.62 is too much for a street/semi-daily car? I don't want to overdo it, so I had settled on 3.45 anyways.

(Currently running BPM Sport Stage 2 w/ DCT software)

I’d go 3.62 for a weekend car also. It’s not as much difference as I thought, I wish I’d used the manual final drive of 3.85.

I did the 3.45 because my car is my daily driver and I didn't want to deal with 5k rpms during long distance trips. The 3.45 is a pretty sweet spot. I do feel the extra kick from the lower gearing and the slightly higher rpm doesn't annoy me at all. I feel the car should have come from the factory with a 3.45.

But like all mods, after getting used to the 3.45, I do wonder if I should have just done the 3.62 instead. Especially now since we have sorted out the rev matching issues (which was the main reason I went for the 3.45). I think the 3.62 would be a hoot to drive, especially if its just a weekend car.

The 3.62 is great, but not for a commuter car.
I guess daily is subjective,
Is your daily commute 5 minutes?
60 minutes?

I just drove my 3.62 DCT car from ACM home, 2 hours. I would not do 3.62 for a car that has that kind of a drive on regular basis.

If you want more excitement, Just drive in 6th gear and see how you like it.

If you take it to the track, it is a great mod.

agreed

and it seems like the 3.62 gearset is cheaper than 3.45!

For those that have a 3.62, what rear tire are you using?

Gotcha. For those of us running a 295/30/18 would a 3.62 be too short? A 3.45 on a 295/30/18 would probably yield a similar mechanical advantage. I'd guess. Zero math involved there. I'm sure someone's got some insight though.

Dunlop Direzza 295/30/18.

18” tyre rolling radius makes no noticeable difference I find. **edit, but I haven’t tried a 19” tyre.

I don't think the smaller tire would negatively affect the car with a 3.62. The S65 doesn't have enough torque to give traction problems. Im only thinking a 3.45 may be somewhat equivalent to a 3.62 with a 295/30. By that logic, a 3.62 may be somewhat analogous to something in the high 3.7/low 3.8 range. Could be an interesting data point to influence someone's decision. Just spitballing.

2018 BMW M2 F87  [0.00]
2012 BMW M3 E92  [0.00]
what you also should keep in mind:

the 3.45 (38:11) gearsets are used items and have only m12 threads.
the 3.62 (47:13) is available as new and used part and has m14 threads (like the OE gearset).
and there is a used 3.64 (40:11) available, which also has only m12 threads.

for installing the 3.45 and 3.64 to a OE lsd you need m12 screws and i strongly suggest adapter sleeves around the screws. a straight fit is only the 3.62 gearset.

what are the prices for 3.45 and 3.62 gearsets in the US?
