Just pulled the spring from my 2013 yesterday. Here are my comments:
-- Easy to remove -- maybe 15-20 minutes total. Would take a little longer to put back in for sure. -- Huge change in clutch pedal feel! The main thing I notice is a lot more force moving through the engagement point. -- Pedal does move laterally a bit now but this does not bother me at all. -- Initial 5-10 mm of travel is very light or squishy feeling but again, does not bother me. Once you get to the important part of the travel, it is much firmer. -- Just sitting in the garage, I think I like the feel better with the spring in place BUT as far as driving, I think removing it has helped since I can now actually feel the pedal pushing back on my foot in the clutch engagement zone even when accelerating of whatever. -- If you think you might want a firmer clutch pedal, try this. You will notice a big difference and it is reversible if you don't like it. --I still don't like this clutch. Would love to have the feel of my E36 M3 clutch instead (and I never really liked that one much)! |

Just did this DIY on my 2008 E92 M3. Took me about 10 minutes, used a T-20 rather than the T-25. Drove it around the block and I like it so far. Thank you for the DIY. And I am glad to be back around the forum world because it is sooooo useful. Next is the Windshield washer fluid leak problem...

Just did this on my 08 and so glad I found this thread. I have to say it was a PITA to get those pins off, but the car shifts properly now. I have no idea my BMW set the clutch up this way. The clutch feels stiff and its so much easier to perfectly shift into 1st and 2nd from a stop, I could never go back. The stability issue with the clutch being wobbly is very overstated, its barely noticeable. If you own a 6MT you defiantly need to do this.

The only thing I dont like about the M3 clutch is its engagement point. No gas, it will start to move the car in 1st gear about 50% the way out. But mine has this super sweet spot at the very end that makes 2nd gear very hard to do at a slow speed without it clunking.
I feel like the clutch engagement is NOT linear at all. Its like 30% engaged from 50% out to 90% on the pedal. From 90% out to 100% out on the pedal, its 70% of the clutches engagement force. Will doing he spring mod make it more linear on the way out?

Having had my car since last July, I can safely say I can shift this car smoother than any of my previous BMW's apart from maybe my E30 vert.

He is probably thinking that without the spring, the clutch pedal level will be lower causing some drag. I am guessing at what he may be concerned about. I don't know the answer. I wish I knew why they out it in there in the first place.

I replaced mine with the superseded part. Much smoother and better friction feel. Its my DD and I wanted to keep it as smooth as possible. Just remember to press the peddle in all the way when putting the new unit in.

How does the prototype clutch pedal feels like?
Does it feels like normal BMW clutch? (like not too light or too heavy) It will be a great product if EAS can make the pedal to come up faster when releasing the clutch pedal. Last edited by ruff1017; 12-01-2013 at 07:49 AM.. |

I don't know but man am I glad I took it out. I've had an '08 and a '13 so I guess I would have had the original single spring and the newer dual spring designs. Both were annoying and neither was anywhere near as nice as my car now with the spring removed. It's been around 2 weeks since I took it out and I've had a couple friends who drive E9x M3s drive my car and they all agreed it's a big improvement.

Sorry to bump this old thread, but wanted to say thanks for this DIY. Huge difference on my 335. Really wish it came like this from the factory.
