Thanks man, it was during the 6th session on Saturday when it got overcast and a little chilly. Car felt like it got a little shot of NOS. The track felt so good and I was able to ride a lot of the berms which helped me to carry more speed through the turns.
I drove the Cayman on Sunday and I thought that it'd be like driving a parade lap knowing that I'd be 10+ seconds slower. Nope, I was working a lot more being on crappy tires and having nannies off. The fact that the brakes disappointed 15 minutes into the 2nd session didn't inspire me to push it any harder. |

Went to Chuckwalla with Speed Ventures. It was quite pleasant out there aside from a few episodes of sand blowing on the track, but the sand largely cleared up.

Not a M3, but the track forum on the e90post is basically dead, so figure post here instead.

Gonna try some big tracks like Road America too.

Not sure if this thread is f8x m3 friendly but here goessssss.....
Track/course: Harris Hill - Austin, TX Best Lap Time: 1:28.71 Car: 2015 F80 M3 6MT Brakes: Stock with stock fluid Tires: Stock Michelin PSS Suspension: Stock Other mods: None, DSC off First weekend on this track, and first time driving my f8x on track. Still had temp tags on. These runs were with DSC fully off. Lap times were between 1:29-1:30 range. Fast lap was 1:28.71. Forgive my sloppy driving, im not as experienced or talented as most here, I just track for fun best lap here is 1:28.71, consistently 129.xx-130.xx. still slow and turning in too early at the top of the hill, and inconsistent on some of my braking zones. a lot to work on.

I prefer CW over CCW. I experienced CCW first, but when I did CW, for some reason I had more fun. Not really sure why. |

Regarding heat issues-----it seems the E9x M3 is prone to heat issues regardless of whether it's N/A or S/C. Of course, the Supercharger can build up a lot of heat. But we've seen tons of N/A engines suffer as well. Honestly, it really does come down to driver ability and driving style. I have a friend who never had any heat issues in his N/A M3 when he was starting out, but then he went to Hankook TD tires. As soon as he went to Hankook tires, he was driving the car harder and faster. Heat issues surfaced immediately. I had a water misting system installed by EAS, and it's been quite effective at keeping temps generally under control up to about 95ºF outside temp. Before the misting system, in warm temps, people knew me as the guy who would overheat after two hot laps. That's not the case anymore. It's not a miracle, but I can run the car in warm temps and do complete 25 minute sessions if I want. Honestly, if you're going for the best possible lap times, my experience is that the tires will give way after just a few hot laps. Especially with a tire like the Hankook TD, it's good to give them a recovery lap in between PB hot laps. So, the tires needing a little love ends up helping the engine. If you just want to have fun for a whole session but aren't going super max the whole time, then the misting system is fine to get you through. The way the EAS system works is that there are 5 spray nozzles---two on the S/C intercooler (or if you don't have a S/C you put them on the oil cooler), two on the main radiator and one on the DCT cooler. It can be setup to work on both N/A and S/C cars. I just use water. Distilled is best. The injectors tend to get clogged quickly if you run tap water. If you have any other questions, I suggest contacting EAS. They've installed a number of them now. |

Forgot to turn on the gopro for that session, but I do have the data log from my phone and a video of my 2nd best lap. Btw, yellow on the data log mean +1.1g, red = +1.2g. As long as it is not cold or wet, these R-S3 grips really really well.

Drove COTA in my business partner's 08 E92 M3.
Stock engine, AST shocks, Vorshlag camber plates, 8x10 18X11 wheels with scrub 305 Pirelli DW slicks, splitter and APR wing. Stoptech ST60/ST40 with Cobalt XR1 pads. Full interior, stereo etc, drove the car there from Dallas. 2:30.1 with a passenger via AiM solo. Any faster E9X street car lap times at COTA? Still sorting through video but here's some of the car. Went Speed District's Buttonwillow weekend. Very nice time. Weather was great. Before this weekend, I've never done a 1:54. This weekend, I ran 6 laps at 1:54. The lowest being 1:54.03…….so now I'm hoping to get in the 53's hehe….darn! SO CLOSE!
Actually, in the 11AM session on Sunday, my timers showed that I was running 4/100th faster than my fast lap through Phil Hill, but then a guy had a mechanical issue on the track AND HE GOT OUT OF HIS CAR TO LOOK AT IT!!! Immediate black flags……That lap would have been my best chance at 1:53……then I broke a stud during a brake pad swap, and my day was done because both bolts that hold the rotor on the hub were frozen with rust and we couldn't get them out.…..ah well. I guess there's always next time…… One other note: The new surface at Buttonwillow is interesting because it doesn't seem to punish you for running old tires like it used to (my tires were on day 5), but it also doesn't really reward you as much for running new tires. On the old pavement, new tires were noticeably faster than old ones. But on the new pavement, old tires seem to work quite well. I had a completely fresh set of tires with me, and I never used them because my 5 day old tires were working great! E90 M3 Track/course: Buttonwillow 13CW Best Lap Time: 1:54.03 (transponder) Brakes: AP Racing - Cobalt Friction XR2 front/XR3 rear Tires: Hankook TD - 295/30/18 square on Apex Arc-8 10.5" (tires on 5th day!) Suspension: JRZ RS Pro Other mods: VF620, Akrapovic X-Pipe with stock exhaust, RD Sport front sway bar, (full interior and no aero parts), Euro-MDM on. |

I think a little public reprimand is in order…….
AHH!!! GET BACK IN YOUR CAR!!!! BAD DRIVER!!!! GO TO YOUR ROOM!!! YOU'RE GROUNDED!!!! NO DINNER TONIGHT!!!! Seriously though, for anyone new to tracking-----STAY IN YOUR CAR unless it's on fire. It's not safe to stand outside your car on an active racetrack. This guy was bending down checking out his car with his back to an active track----and worse---after Bus Stop!!!! People fly off there all the time! Automatic Black Flag. Last edited by dogbone; 02-02-2015 at 01:53 PM.. |
