Anyone ever give any thought to owning a Viper?

i agree, i would be scared as hell to even rip a viper in a straight line. those things are known for sliding like crazy

I did ride along in acr couple years back to learn a track. Made me like them more than I had previously.

i have always liked the late 90's GTS'. they were my era "dream car" like the countach was for 80's people.

Any high horsepower rear wheel drive car can send you off the road in a hurry. It gets "worse" with shorter wheelbase and/or rear-engine designs (see Pantera, older 930 Turbos). The Viper was one of the first (semi-) affordable cars in the pre-traction control era to have 500+ HP. Of course people with no experience with similarly-powered cars bought them and couldn't control their right foot. What's amazing to me (I own a Viper) is the people who come up and repeat all the myths and stories they've heard even though they have never even ridden in a Viper.

One of the things I've noticed through the years as road-holding and tires have improved is that when a (traction control off) car does finally break into a slide it is moving a lot faster and you need better reflexes to react and tame the slide. I drove a friend's MGB roadster and you could casually slide the car around corners at 25-30 MPH!

just the thought of this makes me want to own one, someday. when i learn to trust my right foot.

but i doubt it, that shit always gets me in trouble.

Agreed. If you're going to buy a weekend toy it might at least make you break a tension sweat when you drive it. The power, the sound, the people gawking, all contribute to an exciting drive. Not to mention piloting something that you really don't want to damage but it's so fun you have to do some beating anyway.

As the years go by Vipers are getting less raw, but still, compared to most modern cars they are edgy and muscular in a package that can really handle a track (see the multiple Vipers in Motor Trend's Laguna Seca times and Car & Drivers Lightning Laps). http://wot.motortrend.com/top-10-fas...ca-304331.html

Thing is nuts way too much for 99% Raw as hell, burned my calf 3 times already. But epic, so fun, closest to a race car I've driven as a stock street car. Wicked fun!
