2009 E90 109,000 miles. 2nd owner. Previous owner started with a 15,000 mile first oil change. Intervals became shorter (6-8 K) as more miles were put on.
General wear is typical of other posts. Some scratching from handling. Not clear why 3 & 8 look so good compared to the others. |

If you look closely at edges there are some patches. Under magnification (~60x) you can see it. Also the initial patches #1 look more like pull out of the coating as opposed to wear.

Didn't realize this thread existed. Re-posting the pics here.
Swapped these out of my 82k E90 M3 last week in Vegas (@ Eurotek Tuning). Very uneven wear. Worn down to copper on most of the edges. Now running with BE Bearings w/ OEM bolts.

Engine: 2011 BMW M3 S65, Naturally Aspirated
Bearings: VAC/Calico coated factory 702/703 bearings Rod bolts: BMW OEM Miles on bearings: 1500 Reason for replacement: Customer building stage-3 motor Observations: Example of VAC/Calico coated OEM bearings using OEM rod bolts. Bearings show signs of excessive wear, especially for 1500 miles. Nicks shown in bearing surface happened during storage the last few years. Clear signs of excessive wear can be seen. ^^ Thanks for posting that. Clearly safe to say coated 702/703 bearings will not last any longer than a new OEM bearing. The coating sure didn't last long.
I'm looking forward to seeing more and more examples being pulled. I have had the extra clearance/coated VAC bearing in mine for about 20,000 miles. It'll still be a little while before I pull them out to check their condition and share my findings. Aiming to do it around the 50,000 mile mark, which will not be too long considering how many miles I put on the car every year.

Shock horror...BE agent shows pictures of bearings, supposedly supplied by VAC, to undermine confidence in their product.

Pete the way you constantly attack BE makes me take everything you say with a grain of salt. What's your beef?

Only difference is the bolts which lends some credence to what green eggs has been saying about bore distortion.

Myself I think the sort of duplicitous and unprofessional tactics BE bearings use to undermine VAC shows them in a very poor light. Its not even that they have a proven alternative - who knows how long their undersized bearings will last...at least VAC has shown some strong results. |

BE are said to have more clearance. We haven't yet seen any removed BE bearings on this thread.

An extra .0003" of clearance (the average difference between be and vac cc) qualifies them as "undersized"? Going by that remark are you not doing to BE exactly what you claim they are doing to VAC? How do we know your not an agent of VAC? You bash BE in every thread so that's a logical question. Goes both ways. Ironically it was Robert that suggested vac to me (be hadn't hit yet) so I don't think they are that worried about the competition.

What you will generally not find is me being the initiator. I'd love to be an "agent of VAC" then they would pay me some $$$ but I don't think VAC even has a presence in the UK? |

For some reason he attacks documented measurements, photographic evidence to back it up, and anybody who answers a question with hard data to back it up. If he had any hard data or evidence of his own, he would have presented it a long time ago. But he can't so he just attacks anybody who does. That's not devils advocate and it's not "balance", that's somebody with an agenda.
