its really easy on the front. Remove caliper, rotor, and 4 bolts holding the hub assembly to the knuckle.

As said above, remove wheel, caliper, rotor, dust shield. The strut can get in the way so an assortment of extensions, 18mm short socket, cheater bar can make life easier I just used one hollow bar off my jack handle. Red thread locker if reusing bolts and torque to 83lbs.

Finally getting it under the knife for the following:
- Dinan intake - Dinan pulleys - Eisenmann sport exhaust - Alpine stage 1 tune, GTS DCT software, Euro MDM, Servo, and extra coding - Oil change, differential fluid, coolant, power steering fluid - Monitor DCT pan leak, add +1L of fluid for GTS fill - Spark plugs - Dinan sway bar, end links - OE front tension arm bushings, removing camber pins - OE wiper blades, CRT/F80M trunk cargo net, cabin filters - Dinan aluminum pedals, extended aluminum DCT paddles Can't wait to wrap it up! Then I'll have 255/275 PS4S' mounted and get an alignment. Last edited by wyatth; 06-15-2019 at 04:55 PM.. |

My lower pan has the typical slow leak, so during this service I’ll check on it. Assuming no change since I looked last, I’ll just top off the fluid. At 50K, I don’t think new fluid or filters are necessary, so I’ll just top off to buy a little time. When the leak accelerates, or when the side pan starts leaking too, or maybe around 60K (which will take me 4-5 years, and still early), I’ll do a full fluid/filter change with new gaskets or pans.

Went to the track and learned that the coolant temp sensor issue I had pop up last track day was the red herring in my limp mode case, which was actually caused by the brake boost vacuum sensor.
I simultaneously learned (the hard way) that BMW engineers placed the un-shielded vacuum sensor directly below the brake fluid reservoir, and the overflow that happened when pushing back caliper pistons a couple months ago soaked said sensor in brake fluid, leading to a total of four warmup laps at the full track day of 7 sessions today (each capped by limpage). To add insult to injury I broke the coolant bleeder screw off sending a coolant geyser of coolant onto everything including myself (It was pretty cool looking though), when I decided to bleed since I had replaced the coolant temp sensor earlier this week. I did manage a personal best sector 3/3 on one of the warmup laps though somehow so it was looking like a good day of progression...what a day

I had the day to myself, it was raining, I felt like sitting down and watching a movie. Halfway through I felt guilty because I had so much to do. Then I recalled I hadn't washed the M3 in several months. My work schedule sucks, tbh. I noticed that there was a break in the rain, so I skipped the rest of the movie and ran outside to do the wash.
An hour later the car was clean and beautiful and the skies were holding so I fired it up and went for an air-dry. A little bit of drizzle hit it but the roads were still dry so all was good. A quick buff with the waffle cloth when I got back into the garage and the car looks perfect. I saw some staining on one of the ZCP wheels. The previous owner had these refinished in polished gunmetal grey and the finish wasn't done correctly. Now i have to find someone who can duplicate this finish and do it the right way. |
