Great post. Nice to hear from some of the "old guard" especially with a brand new M3. Congrats.

Great story. It is refreshing to read about someone that truly appreciates this car and doesn't just have a silver spoon in their mouth.

May your dream car always take you safely to your destination
To set a goal and then achieve it is the best feeling one can have even better then sex, for sex only lasts so long as for driving a M3 is a dream in itself

Hey Mark, found the thread. Nice story. The car looks great in person, I remember thinking what a nice color, one I don't see too often.
It's a completely different experience from the 335i. I feel like I'm finally "home".

Am I the only one finding this story to be extremely douchey?
I'm not saying the OP is a douche - just the story (oh, and pic #4). With that said: Congrats on making amends and driving your dream. Last edited by taylorcoleman; 07-24-2011 at 09:46 AM.. |

Don't sweat these people Mark. You can be 100% sure, this guy would never say any of this stuff were he to meet you in person. He feels very safe and entitled at home, on his "first world" laptop.

I feel like you're missing the idea behind the OP's post, which is that this is something he has aspired to, and taking ownership of the M3 was the manifestation of his hard work. This is what he set is goals toward. He's a driving enthusiast, and this is the thing that makes him happy.
It's easy to make fun of someone and declare that their feelings and emotions are not worthwhile or valid because you don't share the same, but to use words like "narcissism, materialism, a lack of self-awareness, & insanity" seems to me a bit harsh. And your post above smacked of pure internet troll-like behavior, which is what I meant by not saying it to him in person. Tact goes out the window, as the anonymity of the internet allows us to say things we would normally keep to ourselves. I can't imagine telling a stranger in person that they're materialistic and insane because they welled up with emotion upon delivery of a vehicle they'd aspired to for over a decade. And I can't speak for you, but I don't punish myself for owning a house or an M3 while in other parts of the world people struggle to feed themselves and their families. I don't make myself feel bad for these things or feel guilty about enjoying them. Much like the OP, I feel lucky and definitely consider myself fortunate to be able to live as I do.

Nice post
I just wonder if you will be writing another story of your quest for and success in having a Porsche 911 GT3 one day in the future. You know those guys go on to a Ferrari Italia or Lamborghini on and on ...... is life of dreams. It's M3 for me too. |

Thanks for sharing op....Congrats
Like you, I'll be a lot of us work hard/play hard and the "M" is one of the fruits of our labor. That pic of you putting the wheel wax on hit home for me..I was putting Rejex on my wheels last night - about a day after taking deliver of my E92. Second best way I could spend my Saturday night. You're not alone in being pathetic -

Nothing wrong in being thankful and getting a bit emotional ... I remember way back when I purchased my first new car it was a VW red Beatle. Driving her home I had tears in my eyes.
Then I was born in East Germany before the Berlin Wall came down, yes I've seen hunger and and hardship ... something a few fellows posting negative stuff here have unfortunately not experienced, if they had then they would not post what they have posted ... obviously the OP appreciates the fruit of his hard labour ... something I can identify with having entered this great American Continent with only a few dollars to my name. You see it is very simple ... once we all had nothing ... in order to appreciate what we do have today one needs to be able to look back to that time in the past. And man is that a great feeling to have.
