Excellent read from Michelin.
While reading it won't necessary make you faster, I think it is more enjoyable to go fast when you understand what is happening. Tire Grip Michelin https://www.paradigmshiftracing.com/...p-michelin.pdf |

Finishing up two days at NYST
Dry and perfect. Tires I am using: Front: FFI500 275/30/19 2015 FFI500 275/30/19 2018 Rear: MPSS 275/35/19 2018 MPSS 275/35/19 2017 This is the first time I am trying a "square" 275 setup. Not bad. The issue is still front grip. The FFI500 must be a hard compound. It is 340 tread tire. It is very loud going thru the turns. Wear is excellent and even. The passenger front takes the brunt of the load and I got it to 192 f degrees outside and 188 inside. This is very good and indicate the -3.5 camber is indeed helpful. I turned the DSC off and enjoyed pushing the car to dance a bit. I am doing many 1:41 laps and few 1:40 with best 1:40.3 This is not bad for the level of wear. For example MPS4 yield 1:38, but at the same time I shred it into pieces. I will have a video of one or two laps shortly. What you may see in the video is that I am working the throttle and the steering wheel. While it does not "look" good it was faster. So smooth looking good was 1:41.x but choppy and steering with the gas was 1:40.x. This perhaps only work on a tight track vs a high speed one. |

Maybe you've already mentioned this previously, but are you using real-time tire temp data from a sensor array or are you measuring with a hand-held device after the session?

Do you know this guy?
. He was in my run group. There were two Corvettes there NASA Time Trail prepped. Very low to the ground. All prepped up and and looking mean. One had Front 295 A7, the other had 315 A7 on the front. I have in my video one of them passing me before a turn, and the mount of grip he had taking the corner was nothing but spectacular. I was SO jealous. Because of social distance guidelines, we were not getting into the usual conversations. I only exchanged few words from a far. According to the driver, one did 1:31, the other was a bit slower at 1:34. There was the McLaren guy I was chasing last year, but this time he came with Audi R8 V10. He was doing 1:37, looked like stock. The R8 was taking of on the straight similar to the McLaren. No comparison to the M3. There was also an S2000 race prepped with A052 tires. He did 1:37.7 which is a record foe the S2K crowd. He was also amazing in the turns, but unlike the Corvettes, did not have the power on the straight. There were three GT3s on slicks also in my group. None was stock but with various degree of race prepped. One was really modified but he was not that fast. I could not keep up with any of the GT3s, but they were not that much faster than I was on the R7. It was fablous group. No trains, quick point bys. Just as perfect two days as one can hope for. For the first time going 1:40/1:41 for two days (13 x 20min session) my front are not on the cords. This can be either due to the -3.5 camber, or indication of how hard the FFI500 compound is. While not on the cords, I am going to replace the front with 2015 PSCup2 265/35/19. I am going to keep the rear the same. I think this will give me a good comparison. So far there is no data that shows that old cheap 2015 and 2018 FFI500 is any slower or last less than a full price $300+ tires. But will see as the season progress |

Here are the S2000 and the Corvette.
They pass me and then you can see the speed difference in the turn. i believe this red Corvette did 1:31 based on a conversation. The blue one in the video above did 1:33 or 1:34 Because the microphone is in the rear, you can't hear the FFI500 yelling, screaming, tormented sounds. |
