I say just get one now if you have the means. I'm sure you enjoy the M3, but when you say you are in LOVE with the GTR, that makes all the difference in the world. You enjoy driving that much more and to me that feeling is invaluable. I had an '03 M3, sold it and got a Mini Cooper. Missed the M3 so much that I bought another M3, but an '05. Solid it after a year to get a 335i. Now I'm not going to say I'm UNHAPPY with the 335, but I miss the raw feel of the m3 and am currently looking for that perfect '05/'06 M3....BECAUSE I'M IN LOVE WITH THAT CAR!
So get the GTR....it's such a phenomenal car and true love is priceless! |

One of the reasons I really like the GTR is that I don't feel that guilty about driving it alot. A cars pushing $150k would cause me to hestitate driving it much.

*cereal box haha - reminds me of the toys that used to come with my frosted flakes as a kid . I've been in into tech way too long!
Get a supercharger for your m and see how you feel about it. You're going to need a 625-650 for the same experience as a gtr though.

Yeah the GTR is a plastic toy. Have you spent much time behind the wheel of a GTR?

+1. Here come the misinformed haters . I appreciate both cars. For some a car is like a their penis. If they think someone has something better they will go into defense mode and start drinking M3 kool-aide by the gallon. Ignorance is bliss. The two cars are not in the same league/class....period. People need to get over it and stop trash talking.

OP, go for the GTR. That thing is just a beast, and a rare one at that. Let's face it, M3 might be more rare than a Sentra, but most folks probably can't distinguish an M3 from a 328i when seeing one driving around.
GTR is straight up scary performance, I can't imagine what you'd have to spend to get something noticeably faster. |

If you are going to do multiple track days, I can see where the GTR would make more sense. From a DD standpoint, I find the M3 a much better choice for the following reasons --- more useable space, cleaner interior, more compliant ride, better build quality and a better sound. Looks are subjective so I won't go there (btw I happen to think the GTR looks cool....don't like all the goofy gauges in the interior though). DD'ing a GTR will run the risk/fear of LEO all the time. IMO I think you can only use 50-75% of that car's potential on the street. I view it much the same way as a Z06/ZR1, a GT3, Scuderia, etc.....unbelievable performance but utterly useless on public roads. For many it's just a dick swinging contest. For those that track them (drag and/or roadcourse), not so much.

This morning I went on Autotrader.com, there were 4 pages of used GT-Rs within 200 miles of me, for such a low production car, there sure a LOT of GT-Rs out there, AND many of them with very low mileage.

the only downsides to the GTR opposed to your M3 are
1. less usable space for rear passengers 2. looks will be subjective 3. jarring ride 4. I think more expensive maintenance 5. more expensive insurance if you want all out performance and an easy car to mod to 10 sec 1/4 mile then GTR, I'm thinking of going that route also, I really like the 2012. |

Not only is the GT-R superior in performance, it also gets better gas mileage. Sounds like a no brainer.

I own Nissan GT-R before and sold it ... The car is too smart and 'boring' to drive (apology for harsh comments), but that is my personal opinion - I daily drive the GT-R. I own many sport cars previously, but now I'm happy with C63 AMG for daily drive and M3 E92 for any other day fun driving.
But GT-R is very very quick car !!! No doubt ... If you want it, buy it and experience it. You live only once Depends on your preferences. Just my 2 cents. |

Love my GT-R... Had the M3, M5, IS-F and others... You won't regret the GT-R, very fun, and exciting daily driver (for me).

^ Has no clue what hes talking about.
Good luck with that lambo maintenance Did you get a GT-R already? 2012's have tuning software available. Who wouldn't want 600hp with a tune and exhaust. I drive my GT-R more than any other sports car I have. It is not my daily driver though. It rides firm, as a high performance car should. The whole Nissan service thing, yes they are not professional as BMW, but my BMW's get oil changes every 15,000 miles (BMW Free Maintenance) and I see the dealership once a year. I drive the cars ALOT more than I go to the dealership. Don't even worry about the dealership issue. The 997.2 Turbo S is one hell of a fast car. Yes I would take it over the GT-R if the price was the same, but no I would not buy one at nearly $70k on top of the GT-R.

Here is one reason to not get a GTR... http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=581363
If it were me, I'd still get the GTR
