You're right - my bad - pulled a crap stat sheet off google. But upping my torque figure doesn't change my opinion of the way the two cars drive and feel...

That's a difference of 8.9 lbs per bhp on the porsche vs 8.3 lbs per bhp on the m3. Oh, and let's not forget torque where the m3's 240 lb ft is waxed by the lighter cayman's 275 lb ft.

My take - the e92 (and maybe the new m4) is a great all-rounder with controlled oversteer on tap while the cayman s (or R if they bring it back) is a more precise track tool. I love the m cars - probably too much - just have to give props to porsche.

If the cayman s were priced identically to the m3, I suspect we'd have fewer forum members.
i mean it doesn't matter what hp or weight numbers you tell me. just look at tack times and car reviews. Its simply not my cup of tea. I am sure the car feels great around a track. but for daily driving its little to slow when not on a tack

If i was going Porsche i would go 911 or nothing

Coming from someone that has a 911 the cayman is a way better feeling car on the street.

Yeah a sedan with a beastly engine that can keep up with a 2seater coupe on the track seems a lot more car to me.

The cayman while better in the corners is no match in the straight sections on the track. Plus i have fold down seats for massive cargo space and can seat 5

Take down some of the weight and put some proper suspension in and it can be very close, or even better. (But cayman can be modded too i understand). Guess this is the story between all makes and models (damn m5 owners )

Races are won in the corners...ill take a car that is quick in a straight line but can carry MUCH more speed into and out of corners like a cayman than an M3 any day as a track car. And dont be so quick to dismiss a cayman S on the straights, they will carry enough speed into and out of corners where even though they may have 100 hp deficit to an m3, its going to be hard to catch them on straights. They are quick and trap about

Hell, a Panamera Turbo S despite having only ~8.4 power to weight absolutely embarasses any M car and is right there with many much more powerful cars on most tracks. At VIR its 3 and 5 seconds faster than an F10 M5 and e9x M3 on only 3 minute lap! Just because a car has 4 doors doesnt mean it cant be a viable competitor on the track, especially when we are talking cars that are not following all the same restrictions/guidlines (i.e. weight, power, etc).

Hence why I said the added utility plus being close in performance, the e90 is much more car "to me". I am not a racing driver. I am the regular guy who likes to track his car. Put average guys together and the cayman is not all that better a car on the track. Will I be quicker in one? Probably. but again, all the other things that my current car can do that the cayman cannot do is just added benefit (FOR ME).

Youd certainly be faster in a cayman S on any track. If you think the M3 is easy to drive, the Cayman S is to the Nth degree.

Two avg guys, one in an m3 and one in a cayman s, the cayman s will be faster 99/100 times. Plus the M3 needs brake work to be a viable track car whereas ANY Porsche brakes are far better and dont requrie new fluid or pads to go from street to track and back.
