Good news. Rotora office is back open today and was on the phone with them. My brake pad fears will be gone on Sunday as they will ship my new set of pads priority overnight, to arrive tomorrow at P-Tech while I'm there for maintenance & adjustments!

Bank 1 lean code. Looking for leaks.

Was fine on track and on the way home. Started car yesterday and codes thrown. Even limp mode when cold and idling. Turn car on and off and it drove fine to the shop.

No leaks in the usual spots today. Need to check throttle bodies tomorrow for leaks and possibly header on the top side. Read a couple ppl had a leak there that wasn't noticeable unless removed.

Speaking of brakes, that Bimmerworld 21% off promo code for Stoptech BBK has it at $4,828 shipped for ST60 (380) & ST40 (355), blue/slotted. Kind of tempting to swap out BBKs for easier parts sourcing. I figured I could sell my existing BBK, also 380/355 for some money..

I'd recommend 355mm front BBK. Allows for more flexibility in wheel and brake pad choices.

bigjae1976 Yea I was considering 355 square assuming it would enable me to rotate pads F/R if needed. Any word on how wear differs between a 6-piston 380mm and 4-piston 355mm front? My 380mm wear fast enough already, if the 355mm kit's pad is smaller, I imagine things may go even faster?

Rotatable pads front and rear would be really cool, but if I was going to do that, I'd go PFC.

If not, quit screwing around and go AP.

Same pads front to rear with the ST40 kit. Most of all the pads are 50% cheaper than ST60 pads.

I think the ST60 pad shape is the same as the AP BBK.

But those PFC BBK pads are HUGE! That is the direction I'd go if I ever upgrade my BBK.

Measured them at the shop. Front pads are thicc at 20.6mm total thickness, of which 14.1mm is pad material. 1 to 1.5mm too thick because they are meant for a different kit that uses slightly thicker pads. Got these pads because he thinner normal ones for my kit weren't in stock. We're doing some grinding now...

i wish the backing plates weren't so thick... i think they do that to screw us out of precious pad material. they could get rid of like 5mm of metal and give us 5mm of pad.

Yea I assume the thick backing plate is for keeping some heat separation, rigidity, or to be a heatsink? When we measured my new pads, the oversized fronts are 6.17mm backing plate and the regular size rears are 5.7mm.

I saw online that Stoptech ST60R pads are 17.1mm or so total thickness, so my 20.6 fronts are ridiculous! My rears are 17.5mm, so that seems more normal.

Probably all of the above, but I suspect it is because of lack of technology evolution. There is stuff just a couple mm thick that is a pretty damn good thermal barrier. These plates can be 1/3 the thickness with a thermal layer and have more pad material.
They probably don't want to invest more time and research and make a $600 race pad though.

I know the pads that fit the ST40 caliper come in different thicknesses ranging from 16mm to 18mm. I think some Porsche spec'd an 18mm pad.

There are some early model Porsche's that use the same pad shape. Some 928, 944 and 968s and one year of a 911 Turbo.
