I wonder how many stock m3's have had this issue. Most of the reports I've seen have tuned engines.

I don't think tuning the stock motor really makes a big difference if your bearings are going to fail. Its not like you are cranking up boost past a safe level or anything. Most tunes produce like 5% more power and don't seem to really add more stress on the engine...

For the cars that have blown motors from the bearing issue, it was going to happened tuned or not

If I can add in agreement, isn't the tune we do here in NA pretty much what comes on the European cars, etc?

Wow, bad news just keeps on coming. I seen videos of the ticking, but does it sound different while inside the cabin? I just noticed a thumping while the car idled during my commute today. Thanks

If you could post a video with good sound quality when idling "outside the car" with a few slow revs between 2-3K rpm's than I could listen to it ? ( hold cam low up to driver side wheel )
I've done it more than once on here and in several PM's .

That pretty much does it for me. Never buying another BMW or any other overpriced unreliable German cars. This is getting fuckin ridiculous

So did everyone get this mysterious ticking noise prior or it happens without warning?

It's not the bearing's fault. It's clearance & oil combination. I installed a BMW factory rebuilt engine and am using only Mobil 1 + oil cooler upgrade + changing oil more often + blackstone reports. Why? because I love this car despite probably never buying another BMW again.

I know...I know my friend ! ( I'm reading this thread from day 1 )
Clearance of the bearings and so still caused by bearing design and so i'm not realy agreed with you it's still the bearing failure !
About the M1 I'm not a believer !
But i'm agreed about never another BMW again => same thing here, and taking my money elsewhere !
Don't think there was a solution they had 2-3 years of testing and 7 years of production that makes 10 years and you can see also what is happening even today no matter with "M1" or "Edge" !
Only thing that BMW does is....Hoping all S65's out of warranty !

These cars should be cheap now for DIYers who can change bearings for $500.
