I'm not buying it. I reduced 6 lbs a corner with ec-7 nt01 combo. Can't feel it in butt dyno. Does work better as stickier for the track.

haha funny. 1971. i will run them back to back this weekend at a new track so may feel something there. im not sure how you make the distinction between what is the cause of the feeling different. sure it does but is that the weight reduction or just a higher coefficient of friction allowing for more lateral grip and acceleration and braking. i tend to think the later is more likely.

probably a little of each. little wider, 10mm front and rear. little stickier, r-comps. less weight, 6lbs a corner. diameter stayed the same. i just think that my handling and acceleration are more greatly influenced by the dynamics of the tire to road interface than by my unsprung weight. each corner still weighs close to a 100lbs if you count rotor(25lbs), caliper(15lbs), pads(2lbs), tire(26lbs), wheel(22lbs), and studs(1lbs). so 6lbs is roughly 6 percent reduction and nt01s are im safely guessing here providing more than 6 percent better traction. every bit does help though.

lovin’ the PSS's
Just put on 275/35/19 PSS on rear M220’s... fantastic!! Will go with 255/35/19 PSS fronts as soon as the 245 PS2’s are worn.

FYI, a stack of a set of PSS in the stock sizes mounted on stock 18" wheels is about 1/2" taller than a stack of a set of OE PS2's on the same wheels, so the PSS do run a little wider in the OE 18" sizes

That's good to know. It will allow for more aggressive stand with 18s.

Another data point, the stack of mounted PSS i mentioned above in oe 18" sizes are only 3/8" shorter than a stacked set of 255/275 conti DWS on 220M's. Contis tend to run narrow so that makes sense, the difference in a perfect world where the sizes actually mean what they say would be about 1.5"

I put my PSS back on for a track day this week with morning temp in the 30s and afternoon was 50s. They did surprisingly well at the track for a max performance tire. No chunking and no overly greasy feeling. Even the tread seemed to hold up like I would expect with the 300 rating. I ran hot pressures at 39 front, 40 rear and tried 38 front, 39 rear later but I think I liked the slightly higher pressure more.
On the street though in 40-50 degree temps (and normal tire pressure 35/36) I'm getting a lot more wheel spin on corners and standing starts than with my Michelin PA4 winter tires. |

Looking at Tirerack I was surprised to see the PS2 cost more than the PSS. There is absolutely no reason to buy PS2s is there? Just a waste of money?

Correct - PSS equal or better in every way and cheaper.

Only if the PSS doesn't come in the size you need which is the situation I was in. So I ended up getting PS2s in 255/30/20 and 305/25/20. I could have gone 265/30/20 and 285/30/20 in PSS but with everyone saying how much wider the PSS is than other tires, I figured there was no way the 265 would fit in the front. 245/30/20 was also available but I wasn't comfortable with the load rating being so much less than the OEM 245/35/19.

You must be referring to 19" wheels not 20". There's no way a 255/35/20 would fit. 255/30/20 is already pushing the limit.

Just switched out Amy rs3 with pss. I have to say that there are many improvements over the rs3 under daily driving situations. Much smoother, quiter, better grip in wetness but at the same time less traction. Dry grip of rs3 is hard to match. I was a bit disappointed with the pss dry performance. after reading several positive reviews on the pss I was expecting more.

GregW is correct. Only reason that PS2 is still around is that it is an OEM tire for many vehicles. And when you offer OEM equipment, then you have to offer it for like 7 years or something...

I wish the weather would break, I can't wait to get summers back on...and a set of PSS.
