So many folks here are stuck in the past. This is where vehicle tech is going across the board. Wait until BMW announces an all electric lineup. You don't have to like it but its going to happen, and is not exclusive to a small handful of automakers.

I'm waiting for the G80 LCI. My understanding is that this will be on the G20 LCI, but not on the G80 LCI. It would be great to know for sure. If this is part of the G80 LCI, I need to buy the current version. I'm not a fan of the bolt-on display.

More major cost cutting, dangerous, prohibitive to use & looks like shit. Dress it up how you like fanboys but its plain & simple cost cutting.
Those making the argument that its new so therefore must be better are naive & need to get themselves into a Tesla (the shitbox brand that started this cheap & nasty rubbish). Does it make fart noises too ![]()

I'm hoping this design only looks so mute because it's on an "i" car. The rest of the lineup should get something a little more modern rather than futuristic.
It also looks like a combination of iDrive 6 and 7. Which, is a good thing. |

Bwoah. There is a way to make digital but sporty interiors, just look at Porsche and Audi Rs-e. BMW is behaving as if it does not have a historical heritage in the production of sports cars; and an equally historic fanbase that wants a certain design in front of its eyes when driving a car. And by the way...this ID8 is not even "luxury", is cost saving Tesla-Style.

I had hopes that after idrive 7 and the terrible gauge layout of the current cars BMW would have learned their lesson. Seeing this only confirms that my M550i will be the first and last BMW I own.

Right, it looks real normal to have a laptop screen in the middle.

This is where the market is headed unfortunately. BMW has to keep up with competitors. It's easy to blame Tesla for all this but it was going to happen eventually given how tech/smartphones dictate all aspects of our lives now.
BMW has the most to lose from the way society is evolving, not "lose" in the way of sales but in the way of brand identity. Customers no longer care a lick about "the ultimate driving machine," they'd rather the car drive itself and be distracted by these screens for god knows what. Personally I enjoy the act of driving. All the tech BMW showcased today is shit I don't care to have and probably wouldn't use. Give me a relatively light car, an Inline 6, tight steering, windows down, good playlist, Apple CarPlay, and I'm happy. ![]()

It's painful to see an iconic brand with so much passion and heritage get reduced to pixels, shiny veneers and "change simply for change's sake."
These designs feel cold and lifeless. I've seen kitchen appliance knobs with more soul than these interfaces. Yes, I still use an abacus and read by candle-light. But I know what sheer driving pleasure is, and this direction ain't it. |
