So i was supposed to get my car back yesterday. i finally called at 5 to see whats going on, the guy whose dealing with me tells me that the tech is still working on it all day and going through all wires carefully and cant find the short. That hes going to give him more time today to look for it but it can possibly be the ECU !!!
My thing is i was quoted 760 for 4 hours of labor and to fix a short in the harness now if its the computer I feel they should of known that in there initial diagnostic. I cant pay close to 800 and the car not fixed. Ill pay the initial 169 diagnostic fee but idk. Im waiting on the call today to see what they say. Hope they find the short and if it is the computer I read that BMW only programs brand new ecus, i was going to get a used one but they dont work on used ecus supposedly. Man this is a big mess if its the ecu. |

If it it is the ecu i need to find out if i can program a used one at a independent shop. 2k for a brand new one way too much or worse come to worse keep clearing the code and stay off parking public streets until time to register again and im forced to fixed the issue because ny state puts a block if the car not inspected for registration renewal

Update . Car been there over a week. I went there to find out whats going on bmw told me that the car is in a "loop" they dont know whats causing it and its not the wiring harness. They upgraded their ticket with bmw north america for help and will need more time. I asked if they cant fix it will i still have to pay 800 and he said no but at the same time he cant imagine not able to find out the issue and not able to fix it, so I guess i just have to be patient

yeah i figured it wasn't the sensor or the wires on mine too. I was able to read the temperature reading on my reader when it was on

hey so i got bad news today. Todd the service person from Mt.Kisco BMW in new york told me that my car needs DSC module that costs 1500 to replace in parts and 600 to program!! thats because there unable to program the car or code it. He said the car needs it and without that they cant tell if the cpu needs to be replace which will be another 2500. So basically idk what to do. i COMPLAIN how this should of been told when I first got the car diagnose, he only told me about a short in a wire and it wasnt until I called the next day he told me it potentially can be a cpu issuse. THEY HAD MY CAR FOR a MONTH! Never once called me until today. I went right in person and was really upset and venting that a lady had to talk to me to explain she will talk to the service manager on lowering the labor costs to my issue. Todd still wanted me to pay the original 800 but lower it to 650 since I was venting. That was to take the car out. Since I almost did she will give me a new number on labor costs for the ecu. Hopefully its just for the DSC MODULE and the other ecu.
My question is , they told me that only BMW CAN CODE AND PROGRAM MODULES AND ECUS? is this true? cant i just get a used one from a wrecked car? and go to a independent shop? im here doing a lot of thinking. even considering pulling the car out and doing the ghetto clearing the check engine evertime it comes out and finding a place where they will pass my state inspection for extra money. any input will help on this major financial decision. thanks |
