To be honest the main FBO mods aren't that expensive. Testpipes are under $400, a tune is $900 and a higher flowing air filter is $60.
I bought my test pipes used for $200, my AFE Stg. 2 CAI I got for $400 and my tune is $900. A total of $1500 for 30-40rwhp and 20-30 lbs. of torque. Dave

1 - Buy an extra OE x pipe and install test pipes on it, swap for smog testing 2 - Buy an complete aftermarket x pipe, swap for smog testing 3 - Install test pipes on your OE pipe and find a tune that will turn off the CEL whilst leaving all monitors in a 'ready' state. I'd love to get a concrete answer on making #3 a reality but can't seem to get a straight answer on what tunes do this, if any. In CA there isn't any sniffer testing. To pass only requires a quick visual scan (not an issue), no CEL and, most importantly, that the smog computer sees the ECU in a 'normal' state. So - is there an aftermarket tune that suppresses the CEL BUT leaves all systems in a ready state such that it is possible to pass smog in CA with test pipes? |

No tuner will respond publicly to this since it is illegal and federal fines are high. However, tunes exist for cars used off road, like track cars.

Depends on how many readiness fails you're allowed. Many catless tunes will have only one readiness fail, which is good enough for most states afaik.

unfortunately in California all monitors must have readiness for year 2000+ cars.
