Good to hear that you found it easier than the alternator. That was a major pain in the ass. Getting the old one out nearly broke me lol. |

I also needed to make an unplanned trip to the hardware store for a deep socket and hose clamps to replace the OEM single-use clamps on the ICV. All in all, it took me about 10 hours over 2 days, including the trip to the store. I could probably do it in 6 next time, but God, I hope I never have to, lol. |

Any tips on how to disconnect the wire to the secondary air pump? It's impossible to get two hands back there to pull on both sides of the plug, and seeing OPs pics I know you also have to press down on the sides of the car-side plug. But the question is how to do that when you can only get one hand at a time in there?

Do you have the pump free of its mounting bracket? Should be just pinch and pull.

Also spray the connector with cleaner or silicone spray.

Figured out the secondary air pump removal thanks to this guy:
https://youtu.be/HSVS2ITlP8Y Timestamp 4:30. So the way is to find and disconnect the electrical connector that T's off the hose that attaches to the back of the air pump. It connects from the bottom and is a short distance away as the hose goes close to the strut tower brace. With this disconnected, the air pump can then rotate toward the passenger side, pulled away from behind the bracket and be placed on top the wiring harness in the V. With the pump moved from its spot, there's now room to use both hands to disconnect the electrical connector for the air pump. |

Looks like we simultaneously posted, but I figured it out as posted how to get the pump put from behind the bracket so that there's room to reach the connector. |

All done, and difficult as promised. Some additional notes from my experience:
- I disconnected all connectors coming off the wires off the front on the harness. - Disconnecting the passenger side throttle actuator rod helped provide room - I used a bungee cord to pull the breather hose in the back as forward as it'll go so that I wasn't fighting it while trying to get to the starter bolts. - my bolts were E14 and T30. The T30 did look hex but has cut outs for the star tips for Torx. - I was nervous that getting the starter bolts started when reinstalling would be a nightmare but they threaded in first try - upon installing the rubber ICV pipe, start both sides at once, instead of one side first. |

I'm in the middle of this and just got the starter bolts torqued down, tomorrow will finish the rest. I've got a bone to pick with franz and hanz. Those bolts in the back were not fun, I read your note about a deep wall and I didn't listen. I finally went to get one when I was putting it back in and it was relatively a breeze, along with zipting the hose as far forward as it would go.
Would have been faster but some moron (me) unbolted the wrong bolts in the back so I had to do it four times and four torques. Dropped the top bolt down to the transmission pan. This wasn't the hardest job yet, just the most annoying. Also found out the dummies who worked on this car previously broke almost every clip on top of the wiring harness. Ordered a used one and going to try and switch over clips rather than taking the whole thing out. I did reuse the transmission housing bolts and top bolt for starter (torqued it to 10nm) but had ordered new starter bolts. I replaced one of my TAs, any quick tips to recalibrating it tomorrow. I've been finding mixed answers. Thanks! |
