Hey Dr is there a good reason to go 10-12k miles without changing oil?? I personally have never gone past 6k miles without an oil change and never lost a motor in 21 years of driving with plenty of spirited driving

exactly right. I love BMW as much as the next guy but they're clearly not perfect. I think the rod bearing issues may be overblown, but nobody can deny it's happening on quite a few cars. It's been an issue on previous gen M3s too. It's the nature of a high revving motor....parts will wear out sooner. It's just the inconsistencies that are troublesome to me and prompted my invest in new hardware.

08 E90 DCT 57k Miles. Got my first blackstone report done a couple weeks ago and the lead and iron readings came back high which can indicate bearing wear. I plan on supercharging in a couple months and I will probably swap out the bearings then

Just turned 30,000. Bought the car w/ 19,000 on the odo. Two oil changes, two oil reports. No track but lots of 7,000+ rpm runs and yellow light shifting. Metals content like a perfect 5,000 mile car, according to Blackstone.

70K Original. No problems. If it was a serious problem, BMW would have a recall for this and there would be thousands of M3s that have this problem. This forums has around 50 M3's that have had there engine blow up compared to the number of members it is almost negligible.

Please dont take this as me arguing because im not. Just sharing my experience since Ive seen my bearings at 70k. In some ways i think you're right about the risk. I don't think these are ticking g time bombs like an Audi 4.2 with the timing chain, but BMW (nor any car company) is going to be real quick to issue a recall on something like this as it's a really expensive fix for BMW to do preventatively for every M3 out there. If they wear out after warranty, BMW "wins". Audi never recalled the 4.2 to my knowledge for chain guides wearing out.
Everyone has an opinion on this but I had some extra cash and changed mine and I'm glad I did. i didnt know what to expect as everything seemed fine, but my bearings were awful and the car gave me no signs. Just because engines aren't blowing at 70k miles doesnt mean they're not aging prematurely. I could've made the exact "70k and the cars fine" statement a week ago, but then I saw them.

What I'd be really curious about is how many people are changing them past 60k and they look fine. You might think they're fine, as I did, and they're not.

Not trying to freak anyone out, just my .02.

I have a late 2011 E90 and just received my 36,000 Blackstone analysis back. Break-in procedure was followed to the t and first 6 oil changes were done at less than 5,000 mile intervals with TWS 10w60. This sample had 7,300 miles on it and was clean. Run period was during the winter which saw more than a handful of days with temps in the 30s and 40s. Blackstone said I could easily run 9,000 miles before oil changes.
