Benjamin Bulldog (made by Crossman) .357 caliber air rifle! Has a 3000psi reservoir filled via scuba tank. Pretty impressive for something air powered and it's pretty quiet too. |

My FX boss says otherwise, if you think a .30 hollow point traveling at almost 900 feet per second can't take out a 45lb coyote you should check again, doesn't need to be a headshotas long as I'm relatively close they'll be done in a few seconds. Quiet enough that I can do it at 10pm without my neighbors who are a 100yards away would wake up. I've taken out a racoon in their 4 year old sons treehouse so they are very appreciative anyways.

Back to the skunk... OP, I'll put it in perspective. If that "varmint" goes into fight/flight mode, it's gonna release ALL of its bunk. And it's a glandular oil. Each spray is about 15cc, the average skunk can hold around 5-6x that.
So...after our skunk episode, we used 10lbs of ground coffee, 4-5 gallons of tomato juice, multiple washes, charcoal, bleach... That smell just wouldn't go away. It just got worse. Smelled like skunk brunch with coffee and Bloody Mary. |

Shoot, why pay an expert when I am getting expert advice here?
Just had a look behind the tough shed next to the shed in the photo and an even bigger hole I'm going to plug up secondary holes and methodically go with a game plan to seal it off when he is out. It's like a challenge....apparently my wife has spotted him hanging out in the mornings...so it's a matter of time before he is out and I rush over and do a fill.

When the bastard leaves, you can fill in the hole w/ some rocks, cement chunks, etc... but there is still a chance they'll dig around it or make a new hole. Places like Home Depot and whatnot sell coyote urine/scent and the like you can use, but the little bastards can be pretty stubborn. It can be a game of attrition.
If you don't have pets of your own, try tossing some cayenne pepper into the hold as well as at the entrance. If they persist, you can fill in the hole w/ rock but not all the way. Use dirt w/ cayenne mixed in for covering the entrance. They might try digging, but it will irritate their paws so they should stop. It's also a natrual, biogradeable solution that all the hippies in your state can get behind. It'd only be a subset of the hippies and some hipsters who would cry about 'animal cruelty'. If so, get a honey badger.

Aside from the fun of plinking, this is a good reason to get an air rifle.
A high subsonic .22 pellet will easily handle most critters you can get within 20-30 yards. |

You can also pour flour around the openings to see if he has gone in or out. Should work as well if not better than newspapers.
This also looks pretty cool. Havahart® Spray Away 2.0 Motion Activated Sprinkler ($69.99) Last edited by WHL102; 05-20-2016 at 02:49 PM.. |
