i cant understand why people would garage queen their car if they know they will sell it few years later...like someone said above, why spend all the extra effort and work just for someone else later down the road...Now, if you plan to keep your car forever, then its totally understandable to baby it, take care of it, whatever...my dad has a 1990 toy landcruiser with less than 20k miles on it....its just one of his many cars, a production car, but something about it he loves and will never sell it, regardless of price...so everyone has a different take...but anyway, if u know ur gonna sell it, who cares...just dont get into an accident...the buyer will never pay u EXTRA for all the work u put into it...at the end of the day, mkt price will dictate the value of your car and he wont be paying you a premium over it....just like how i wont be paying 15k for an e36 even though the owners are all willing to show me evidence of how well the car was mantained...i say kbb or no deal...they for for 6k at the auctions

Agreed, in my experience a 1997 M3 in good condition with lowish miles is a $10k car. If I could get one for $5k I would have already bought one for my brother. Seriously.

Garage queen or trash/neglect your car? I think I take very good care of my car, but I don't wash/wax it compulsively even if it is not dirty, I don't remove the seats to vacuum it, I don't remove the wheels to clean the inner side, I enjoy sharing the driving pleasure with my wife and friends... and, most importantly, I enjoy driving it, what it is what the car was designed and built for. I also own a MB R350 with 4Matic, great car for the bad winter days, but not as fun as the M3 to drive. In the (few) days that I thought it was unsafe to drive the M3, I drove the R350, but never because I was afraid that the salt on the road would ruin my precious mass production car!

I think people misinterpret the word "investment". I'm just throwin money at a depreciating asset, driving the piss out of it, tracking, and it's the BEST investment I've made! The only truly valuable investment is one that brings you happiness, and in that regard I've got a blue chipper here!!!

"what is the point of having a car that just sits there, all gleaming."
To keep it looking like the $60K investment it is, I guess. I never spent that kind of money on a car before, and likely never will again - damned if I'm not gonna baby it... That said, she still gets put thru the paces once a week or so, but if I'm in the mood to beat some machinery around, I jump on my $3500 DRZ400. |

When that day comes that you sell your car (and you will), you'll never hear a guy say "man, I wished I had babied that garage queen more" It's quite the opposite. Also, owning multiple cars for the purpose of keeping a garage queen is stupid unless you have the money to blow and enjoy all your cars equally well.

I keep my cars in pristine condition for my own benefit and because I enjoy taking care of them.

+1 captain... it's always nice to see people ask how old our 2000 Z3 is because it looks Brand New.
I wish I'd done a better job with my M3 but I bought it used, and the M5 has been the DD for a few years now and it's hard to take it out of service for a proper cleaning when it's got the child seat in it. But hey, that's why the new M3 is a sedan so it can take turns with the 5'er getting properly cleaned.

Same here. Pride of ownership, etc. I'm not sure why everyone gets upset about it. I'm sure it's not envy.

I think most here(me included) are questioning why some only drive their cars to what amounts to a mere few weeks of the year, not how clean you keep it. I'm sure many who daily drive their cars still have pride of ownership and are meticulous about keeping their cars in showroom clean although some climates do not allow for that. |

The $25,000,000 Ferrari GTO that I posted a picture of earlier was purchased by the present owner for agout $14,000 when it was a couple of years old. It turned out to be a pretty good investment.
