I was not being personal either, and regardless, apologize for the mis-directed response. This thread is unfortunately going no where anyway, as all it does (for the millionth time on here), is re-confirm the fact that some people like vanilla and others like chocolate, and that's what makes the world go round.

I've driven both a 05' GT and a 06' GT500. The GT is simply awesome for $150k and the GT500 is a beast. I can't wait to drive the 2013 GT500 experience 650hp in a factory Mustang.

Im having second thoughts..plus the price...wow...I cant wait to see the actual performance numbers, 0-60, weight of the car, qtr mile times, and nurburg times. If they take handling cues from the boss...were looking a a worldbeater here...and the price...only 60k?? Thats a steal for all that performance. Quote:
The AWD on the gtr/tranny is a gold mine and will be tough to deal with. Especially if they, nissan, cut down on weight and continue to develop the car like they are already doing. It seems exotics wont stand a chance in performance eventually and all theyll have is just a name. |

I just bought a 2012 CTS-V Coupe and will get one of the first of the 2013 GT500s. It is about time I feel good about buying American. I still have my X5 M and F430 if I start to feel insecure ..........Steve

I'll be driving one ASAP. I hope the thing has seats to support you when you use that power. I wonder how it holds up in crash tests. A lot of good all that power is going to do if you can't control it. Numbers sound good, now time to put it to the test. Looking forward to it. In fact I'll look at the ZL1 as well. I think they are both heavy cars though.

The auto rags must be itching to get the new GT500 and ZL1 together. I just want to see how Ford is planning to handle launching that much power. The Boss 302 has a similar 0-60 time and isn’t much slower in the ¼ with 100 less hp than the 2011 GT500 because it’s so hard to keep traction from all reports. My first car was a Ford so I’m pulling for them. Hoping to see a lot of the Focus interior design make its way into the next version of the Mustang.

I just wish they would get rid of the mustang shell, build a modern day GT40, not just copy paste. A spin off of the GT40, maybe a gt10 at 90,000, 550+hp, I guess I can only dream.
Ford has the potential of building a carrera like icon, a shape moldable over time, I think their efforts are better suited under a more exotic looking car like the GT40... |

That's because real men drive stick. Not some pansy flick of a paddle. And before u tell me "well F1 cars are paddle...etc...", well u are not a F1 driver nor do u put the M on a track every day for that matter. What's next? An "air-scarf" technology around the headrest on muscle cars?

Sorry but I'm not impressed. The 2012 with 540hp can't break mid 12's in the 1/4, is heavy, cheap interior and YES its just another mustang with no exclusivity. Everyone under the sun has a mustang these days from grandma in the 6cyl to the MILFS driving the GT's. They make enormouse torque down low making them notoriously difficult to launch. Don't get me wrong....60mph up its a monster. So they made more HP with the 2013 and played with the TC settings.....so what! What else did you expect from an American muscle car. My ESS M3 makes roughly 580 at the crank and I'll bet I can put up better straightline numbers from a dig. From a 30 or 60mph roll I would get killed.
Now if it was 3500lbs, had DCT and IRS....i "might" consider but you could buy a used GTR and run circles around this. At the end of the day, drive what pleases you....different strokes for different folks |

Stop trolling for a DCT vs. 6MT argument and post this in one of the million threads on that. This thread is about a downright impressive showing by Ford, although it has it's flaws, it is just very impressive and no one can deny that.

The problem with it is the solid rear axle and also wheel/tire setup from the factory. The car comes with 19/20 wheel size, and you cant get any good tires that fit. The OEM tires are absolutely miserable and grip about as well as bike tires. The car is severely under-tired from the factory to say the least. My friends car has about 550whp/550wtq from basic mods and to say its a handful to drive is an understatement. The car is extremely fast (especially from a roll), but is very jittery over anything but glass smooth pavement due to the lack of good tire grip and also from the limitations of the rear axle when both tires dont have equal grip or contact with the road (which happens often on the street). Under acceleration, this issue causes things to get scary in a hurry. It is disappointing to me that this car doesnt have IRS yet because they did it on the 03/04 Terminator so obviously they are capable of making it happen. Overall a great drag car, but with that type of power its going to be a bitch to handle on the street with a solid rear axle and shitty tires. Im guessing the traction control system is going to be interfering like a son of a bitch basically all of the time. So close for ford, hope they go to a lighter IRS based car soon.... EDITED to add : Honestly, anyone who hasnt driven one of these, especially a modded one, cant understand how fast it is from a roll. This car will light up the tires from a 60 roll all day long. 3rd gear in that car feels faster than first gear in my m3....serious speed

IF my friend keeps the car, he is going to be selling his wheels to go with the forged ford racing 19s so he can run re-11s. He is also planning on getting new shocks/springs and sways. Hopefuly the stiffer sidewalls on the re-11s and the sways can alleviate the bodyroll and help the car stick better. That said, when the car does slip, the solid rear axle is still going to cause the same issues. The tires cant help much with acceleration over broken/uneven pavement. Its way too much car for the street, but still is fun as hell to drive

For what it is, Ford has done a heck of a job with the solid rear axle. I autocross my F430 and a buddy has a Boss 302 he brings out and it is quite a car out there.
Anyway I am going to get one of these from the first batch since it is just so nutz that I want to add it to my collection: 2005 Ferrari F430 483HP 2010 BMW X5 M 555HP 2012 Cadillac CTS-V Coupe 556 HP 2013 Ford GT500 650HP That’s 2,244HP sitting in my garage before any mods, if I decide to do any. That boggles my mind ……..Steve

Hell, the new ZL1 Camaro will have neutral buoyancy, if not negative lift! No M car has that. The new GT500's aerodynamics are poised to yield similar results (all better than any M car). The GT500 is the real deal, as is the ZL1. Sorry, but the Japanese and Americans are kicking Europe's ass right now. It's one thing if you want European refinement in style, but please, if you're going to talk performance now, you don't get to scoff at the Japanese and Americans anymore. Sorry.
