When you open the driver's door you should see a black sticker, about 4" x 3", either on the frame or on the side of the door. It will tell you the production month/year.

Plus, I am hopeful that in a 6 months or so a full retrofit will be available, and this is one less step to take at that point.

Got a call from Parts Manager to say that the center console trim has arrived. Picking it up tomorrow after more than two months' wait. Can't wait to install and enjoy the new toy. As I said before the controller is working with my 2007 M3.

Installed mine ... the knob is smooth as silk, and everything working fine. Pics to follow. Installation was a breeze after following Technics' instruction. When it lights up at night the cabin looks stunning.

Has anyone tried to order the controller recently (p/n 65 82 92 13 309)? Evidently this part number is no longer available and the replacement is also not available.

Just installed on an 06/08 build E92 M-DCT. Everything works except the "TEL" button which doesn't seem to do anything. To access my phone I still have to do it the old fashioned way!? Anyone else have any problems with this?

Found the problem, the controller was not properly assembled. The back cover in the corner under the "TEL" button was not fully closed (the clip had not been locked over the tab). Guess this met that the momentary switch contacts were not able to connect when the button was pressed. I was able to loosen the torx screws and get the cover on properly. Everything OK now.

the car needs at least SW ver E89X-07-09-520 to work with the new controller. The latest SW out at the moment is E89X-09-06-510.
Interestingly, the computer was saying to replace the control unit - CON - (65 82 9 213 309) with 9 125 348.

So far it looks like the M3 pre-LCI iDrive is the only one that is "picky" with the LCI iDrive controller swap and the software/production date versions, as the 3-Series pre-LCI iDrive does not have such swap problems.
The only iDrive requirement in the 3-Series is having the 6 pre-programmed buttons (MY2007) and not any particular production date or TCU type. The swap works as long as it is a MY2007-on iDrive. |

Looks like it. I took my car into activate the mirror pivoting (wing) when arming the car. It would do it only as part of the integration level being brought to the above (as indicated in the above post). The estimated time was 1hr 45 mts. Given how the components are prone to failure during SW upgrade, and since I didn't want to foot a huge bill replacing part I left it as it's.
Interestingly the computer was showing new part numbers for the following: K line, DCAN: DME/DDE DSC, DWA, FZD, SMFA, SMBF, EDC-K MOST: TEL/ULF, AMP, VM, ULF-SBX

Let me tell you what exactly happens during programming:
You need to see to believe ... the checks the computer carries out and lists is amazing. Items are listed under the following categories:

Aussie + PG
When I dropped my vehicle off for the recode I already had the new controller installed (the -311 unit). If I am reading Aussie's post correctly the fact that the new unit was already installed may have prevented the SW update from being completed correctly, thus my -311 not working. What would the solution to this be? Would I have the SW update installed with the original controller, then once back at my home, install the newer controller? Also, I posted the following question in the other thread relating to this (would a merge make sense for these 2 threads), but how exactly do I go about checking my vehicles software version. What do I need to purchase? Thanks for the info PG and Aussie!
