I would rather spend a couple more and get a base M2.

Honda invitet to a test drive when the car came out. Thought what the heck, maybe time to come out of the cave and upgrade to something designed in modern days. The reviews has obviously been fantastic. Car drives great, Im sure twice as fast at half the mpg and all the rest of it. Still, not near having the soul, and realized I passed the age. Still exciting car though!

The thought of constantly having to explain to people why its cool and not just a Civic kind of kills it for me. No doubt a fun way to get around tho.

Had a little more time to swallow this one today and think I can come up with a stronger comment... the thought of giving someone my e92 M3, writing a check for $7k and then walking away with a souped up Civic kind of sounds like...well, the worst idea ever.

The e92 m3 is as related to the 328i as the CTR is to Civic LX. |

For track use, the Civic Type R has overheating issues. I don't see it being reliable on track without extensive cooling upgrades.
Last track day I went to at Buttonwillow had 4 Civic Type Rs in various states of tune.. None of them could last more than a few laps without overheating even with upgraded intercoolers and radiators.

Similar tiers no doubt. But never personally had to make that explanation.

Exactly. 'M3' is a recognizable brand in and of itself, even to many non-enthusiasts. The M3 has more racing pedigree and well-earned prestige in my mind - it is and has been the benchmark in its class for decades. The CTR, regardless of how incredible it is, still has the 'souped up Civic' title in most people's minds. I'm not saying that title is deserved, but I can certainly understand having to do some extra explaining to people...

[QUOTE=Iyzmi;23634959]That may be true, but I would argue the 328i is an objectively better car in almost every way compared to a Civic LX. With that in mind, if we boil it down to 'souped up base model' the BMW still comes out ahead. If I was faced with choosing between a Civic LX and a 328i, there is no doubt in my mind which one I would pick.
Different price points. It should be better. |

Of course it should be, and it is. So then we agree that it would in fact be a bad idea to give up a 'souped up 328i' for a 'souped up Civic', especially with a $7k check on top for a car that starts at a lower price point.

Pesonally, I would rather get an ek/eg civic hatchback with k20 swap and a turbo. It will be like a little go kart, damn fun to drive.

Do what you want OP - if you like it, get it! But... since you asked for opinions man that is really not one of the best looking cars out there. Saw one on the streets for the first time today and it looks like Bumblebee hate f@#*ed a CRX and this showed up nine months later.
