Reminds me of the stories my uncle told me about Charles Atlas....

My uncle was born in 1950. He passed last year. I was born in 1981. He said he had socks older than me. Ha ha

Your uncle was too young to go. Sorry for your loss.

I was born in '55. My oldest child is one year younger than you.

What are you doing in this thread? You're too young.

I guess we'll allow you to visit.

Someone has probably already posted this on one of the other 300 pages. Used these in elementary school.

I graduated in 1980. To the best of my recollection that was about ten years ago, wasn’t it?? Seriously, 1980 wasn’t that long ago!!

In 1980 the equivalent time back for us compared to today was 1937. Now that was a long time ago!!! My dad was born in 1936. He turned 87 yesterday.

So you were 1 1/2 when JFK was assassinated, not 6 months. Gotcha. I thought we were the same age.

I remember being a kid and my parents listening to the "Oldies", which at the time was the '50s doo op stuff, that was in the '70s or 20 years old. Blows my mind Led Zep, The Beetles, Stones etc are freaking 50 year old tunes.

You are right!! I had 1962 in my mind when I typed that. My memory is kinda fuzzy from that time. I fixed it.

You know you are old when you are in congress.
Older members of Congress are notorious for their lack of familiarity with modern technology. Late last month, at least three different representatives in a hearing on TikTok called the popular app “Tic Tac,” a breath mint available in many store checkout lines.

Some fun facts on demographics.

At my grandma’s house, we could walk a few blocks (down the alley I think) to the “little store” and buy candy. They recognized us even though we didn’t live there and charged it to grandma’s account. Today kids under 10 years old probably wouldn’t be allowed to walk that far alone, and I don’t know of any store that has counter credit any more.

Also in the 1960s, I used to take a couple of cartons of empty soda bottles several blocks (walked of course) to the market for the deposit, then use the deposit to get a haircut next door. I can’t remember the amounts now, but it seems like the haircut was maybe 50c and each carton of 6 bottles was 30c.

Coke and other sodas were warm in the machines, at least at gas stations on road trips. Candy bars also were sold warm, especially in vending machines, which I suppose led to the M&Ms campaign about a sticky mess and “melts in your mouth, not in your hand”

I might have posted some or all of this before; I can’t remember. That is a privilege of getting old!
