Many have run 0W40 with good Blackstone reports. I even read a guy say his lead levels dropped running M1 0W40.

If you're concerned, you could add 4 quarts of Mobil 1 15W50, which is suppose to have the same base stock, per one of the engine builders here.

been running M1 for about 2 months now. I noticed faster oil consumption under same driving conditions.

An acceptable oil, but for the same money you can get a superior oil: Mobil 1 0w40.

M1 0w40 is XOM's halo product. Castrol Edge 0w40 is not a halo product.

I'm going to be trying out M1 0W40 in the M3 for the winter, and maybe one track day early spring. My 335I runs on the stuff. Walmart is selling 5qts for 10:66 with this mail in rebate:

Look at the year of his car. Could be lead free rod bearings

I made the switch this morning to the Mobil 1. I took my oil to the dealership, and with my BMWCCA membership, out the door it cost me a little over $45 to have them do it.

While I was there, my S.A. and I had an interesting conversation after I explained my concerns to him:

Him: You know what car has *really* been having engine problems? The M5s.
Me: The new one's?
Him: No, the one's with the V10s. And the guys are *screaming* at me about it when I tell them there's nothing we can do.
Me: I've seen BMW goodwilling some guys engines.
Him: Not the M5 guys. Most of the time they're the 4th or 5th owner, and they aren't too happy when the engine goes, especially when we tell them the price to replace them.
