My PSS always seem to have this weird marbling/shredding problem on the center tread block, even with the GM "competition" alignment and recommended track tire pressure specs. It's pretty consistent across all four tires. Anyone else ever seen this?

Other than that, these are wearing really well now that I have a more aggressive alignment. ~6 track hours and have only worn 2.5/32" off the fronts, 1.5/32" off the rears.

It looks like feathered wear due to the slight wear pattern on the three middle blocks (top picture). It's most noticeable on the two middle blocks on the right. Not really a big problem, but might want to readjust the toe angle back a bit closer to the previous configuration if it's been altered as part of the alignment. If the toe angle hasn't been altered, uhhh... go slower in corners?

it look like outside edge wear, but its not on the outside... maybe tire pressures getting too high?

Will do at least 1 weekend this year but figured camber plates are cheaper than front tires right

I'm using the GM competition alignment now but that wear happened even on the original alignment. Here's what he dialed in for toe:

Front left: 0.06
Front right: 0.04
Rear left: 0.01
Rear right: 0.05

Maybe. GM says to reduce the cold pressure to 26, and as soon as I get off track I bleed it back down. PDR shows pressures peak at around 34 during a session.

Might as well. You'll like them on the street as well.

A couple questions that turn up way too many irrelevant search results (apologies in advance);

1. How many track days before an oil change? Not many street miles, it's just a track/autoX car.

2. During the last session of a mid-80's track day, the engine water temp got up to the 3rd/4 lines on the gauge. I can go back and look at the actual tempt data for a specific temp, but no lights came on. Any concerns? Does everyone (incl N/A) eventually upgrade engine cooling?

3-4 days.

Yes, but some n/a guys get away with it for a long time. I'm still with oem cooking, but I'm relatively slow.

Strange. 5th gear has no noise whatsoever. Is that gear the lowest in the transmission or something? Fully submerged in trans fluid

1. You can do more than 3-4 days. The sump is huge and the 10w60 oil doesn't wear out that fast. What I would suggest is to do X number of track hours (maybe 10, which is ~ 5 days?), pull a sample and send for analysis (pay for TBN & TAN), and use that as a guide for how much longer it can go. Explain that you are trying to establish a change interval for a track car and they'll provide guidance.

2. The gauge on the cluster is oil temp. Do you have a separate coolant temp gauge?

It should go into limp mode before you do damage. I went on a ride along with an instructor who was really pushing the car with the engine oil very close to overheating. The engine starting misfiring and went into limp mode. I think it's was fine after cooling off.

Unrelated, but has a poll been taken on who is running what brands of oil for track use? Don't want to start debates, just curious.

I've been using Ravenol 10w60, on my 2nd oil change with it. Haven't noticed any significant differences on or off-track. Just cheaper oil change costs

I picked up some of those small tools I don't have any specific job in mind for at the moment... but these are the things you love to have around when you need them.

1. Handee clamp that can help hold nuts in place to get them started on a hard to reach bolt.

2. Gimbal ratchet... like a ratchet for right spots that swivels.

3. Self adjusting, one squeeze wire strippers.

at what temp does it start doing this? kinda surprising to hear.

what kind of coolant do you guys use/recommend, or do you run straight water on the track?

I know some use water wetter and distilled water. It's not for the colder regions.

Been there, did that. 6 days. S54 using Liqui Moly 10w-60, if it makes a difference.

I'm changing every two track weekends. Currently on Ravenol 10w-60. Tested out Total Quartz Racing as well.
