who has replaced their temperature sensor? i'm trying to figure out its location, but i'm not having any luck... its a $40 part and i think it is giving me a code if i'm remembering correctly.

damn, in las vegas? you're a long way from home bud. sorry to see. what in the hell was that gtr doing? he damn near stopped. any damage to the strut towers? glad you're ok.


i'm interested to see how your track insurance claim goes.... (are you going to go that route?)

If the damage exceeds my $3600 deductible it depends - I am curious if it "counts" against me - many of these track insurance organizers will only let you make 2 claims within a 3 year period.

When I popped the hood the struts looked fine.

Radiator hit the engine pulleys a little bit but no coolant seems to be leaking. My auxiliary fan is still intact, surprisingly. Oil cooler is toast, and worryingly, left a trail of oil about 50 feet after I landed. If you look in the video the engine stalls but before it does oil pressure was 0. Hopefully the motor is intact.

Visibly nothing behind the sway bar looks impacted, just the front bumper, oil cooler, and crash brace.

I drove my M4 there, MMI Vehicle Systems was kind enough to tow my car there and back. It's going to the shop tomorrow to assess

i see. the tow situation was certainly fortunate. still insuring with RLI corp?

i think you already had the e-fan upgrade, was the oil cooler already upgraded?

Which turn? I assume the outside road course. Was this for BimmerFest?

Sorry to see. Glad everyone is ok. At least if you look at it in a positive way things could have been a lot worse. Never fun to go through. Just make sure your shop is thorough with he inspection. It's easy to miss damage when your not used to looking for it everyday.

redpriest yikes! Glad you're ok. I jumped a curb many years ago in one of my E46 M3 and the damage was far worse. Suspension was mangled and the driver's side wheel was pushed a bit into the interior floor space.

Question for you guys about RE71R tires. What are the ideal cold and hot tire pressures for them, on our cars?

I will be running my track set of 18x10 APEX EC-7 and 275/35/18 RE71R for the first time this upcoming Sunday. Previously been tracking on PSS, and decided to step up because I'm destroying front tire shoulders.

I did mine last year when I replaced my TAs, Thermostat and Waterpump...figured it was best to replace the Temp Sensor as well as preventative maintenance since I'm already working in that area.

It's located on the Thermostat housing shown in the pics below circled in red.

Yeah outside road course, turn N9b to T7a-b according to this one track map. You can dive in really late braking into that area.

This guy had been riding my butt for the entirety of the warm up lap since I had pregridded first with the fastest time in that advanced run group. I was only doing about 80% on the warmup.

Once the real lap hit, once we got to the back straight he passed me and was gone ... until the high speed right hand sweeper and left hand turn right before bus stop. In retrospect given how slow he was, I should have given him way more room, but it was a time trial. Lol. Needed the HPDE trophy, was only down .08 seconds from P1.

I saw him brake but not hard and had no idea he would almost stop completely in that section. Didn't want to run into him so committed to going off, and well, I didn't see that ditch.

Yeah, the oil cooler was upgraded with the Fluidyne kit - $1000, lol. Apparently from talking with previous owner, it doesn't do much good over stock. It doesn't have the e-fan upgrade, so I will need to replace it eventually since they've been known to grenade.

I heard a lot of complaints about the outside course being boring, but I actually loved it quite a bit. It has a lot of technical turns that I feel like would really reward experience at the track. I'm bummed out that I had my accident in session #6 of 8, I double booked sessions and was really looking forward to doing it all day.

Hotlap is here - you can see that you can brake really late into the turn I had my accident in.

RE: Oil cooler - CSF @ autohausaz is $470. You don't need the fluidyne. Oil dropped about 20-30F when I upgraded my stock one.

I have the CSF as well. In combination with Air vents, cooler, and removal of the Aux Fan, absolutely no issues with cooling whatsoever.

I'm going to fix it - love the car too much not to. I have track insurance. Even if its heavily damaged in spots I don't know about, I'll have a decent sized payout.

I think I'll pull the trigger on the CSF cooler. Bimmer Challenge has a pretty good contingency plan, and with my 2 2nd place and 2 3rd place finishes, looks like I get a $500 discount off a $549 oil cooler. I'll take that!

I've been off on the left hander after an E36M3 tossed the upper radiator hose and spewed coolant everywhere. Corvette that was chasing me did some impressive 360's. I just ran wide and recovered.

You did pretty well in the place most lose tons of time in, the >180 toilet bowl left hander right before the front straight. I always tell myself to not get lazy there b/c it's easy just to drive a nice arc there. Attacking the corner is something most don't do. Try running wide on the right hander entering it, carry the speed and double apex the left hander. Use the throttle to kick the rear around if the front won't bite (you're in 2nd so you have the torque to do it).

I broke the stock strut bar mount on the bus stop curbs when I hit one "just a bit too hard" the last time I ran the E46M3 out there. Whoops... Kaiv was there that day (he's all over M3 forum dot net -- a solid E46M3 forum).
