Are you talking e9x or e46? The paddles themselves arent hard to wire. It does get a bit more complicated if you start adding additional functions on your steering wheel.
The KMP wheel that I got for the e46 is mostly Plug and Play, but does require some DIY due to the said functions I chose. The e9x series and the Fxx series cars have Plug and Play kits from KMP, very simple install. |

Did an SCCA Track Night In America on Friday at PIR here in Portland. Wasn't half bad. An Elise mis-shifted over a rise and backed into the wall
![]() I was worried enough about the crowd and how they vet'ed people that I paid $300 for track-day insurance through Haggerty. Happily didn't need it. On square PS4s the car was great, minus the still-stock brakes (that's going to get fixed next weekend). I had a couple pucker moments as brakes began to fail at the end of some long straights, but I kept it on the tarmac each time. The Dinan suspension did much better than I expected (springs, front bar,toe-links,camber plates at -2.5,-1.5). Mostly ran 1:36 when I wasn't in traffic and the track wasnt tooooo wet. |

I'm not really big into "podcasts" because there are few things i am interested in that I want to listen about.
However, I recently discovered Ross Bentley's "Speed secrets" podcast and have found it to be interesting. I wanted to pass along he is doing a webinar with a guest on setting up a car properly. Looks like it is $99, but it is a ton of content.

Arggh. I already listen to way too many podcasts, and now here's on more I'm going to have to binge. Ross Bentley's books are great.

I listen to audiobooks as I drive. Couldn't find anything on driving, but this is just as good. I'm really happy about it.

Prepping for the track on April 28th. Install the fall line motorsports thrust arm bearings and did an oil change. Can't wait to test out the new car to me.

In one of this podcasts, one of his guests talks about car setup and setting for the weekend guy like me. And the insight that was shared made a lot of sense and I'm going to focus on it- get really good at the "free" basics. Which is tire pressures, and if you have the capability- suspension settings (camber was the main reference here).
Doesn't cost you any money, you just have to think about it. I want to try to get really good at the basics.

I've got a VBox Performance Box. Any reason it shouldnt be used as my track-day lap timer? It seems to have a few features and some software for correlation and video.

Racekeeper has been the best system I've seen so far, but the cost of the Solos was so much better I ended up going with them. Also, since all my friends had solos, we could share data and compare laps against each other. Last edited by crzydave17; 04-22-2018 at 09:19 AM.. |

![]() I really wanted to pair it with the Smartycam for an integrated solution, but I just don't like the cam at all. For the price, it's specs are outdated compared to what you get with a much cheaper GoPro if willing to do a bit off post processing work. I also don't like the fact that you can't do video analysis properly. The VBox system is much better in this regard. One data/video system that is gaining a lot of traction in Europe especially is Race Navigator. Super simple, intuitive, and checks all the boxes. Unfortunately it's expensive especially if you want the Pro system, the WiFi display, and 60fps 1080p Cams. I think I'll use the GoPro for now and maybe try the Race Navigator in the future, unless AiM joins the new century with a better camera |
