Hi Ben,

I am moving to Denver, CO in Feb and will need a set of winter tires for my E92 M3 with ZCP wheels. I see from your previous posts, there are a few options for the OEM wheels.

Which tires and sizes would you recommend in this situation? Thanks in advance.

Hey, early welcome to Denver, T_D!

Ben, thanks again for your response. I found some 275/45/19 LM-60 on the TR site...a bit taller than I want...do you think it'll affect the ride much if I'm only driving around town and rarely going above 70?

Hey, what are the specs of your wheels? I'm looking into the same wheels right now.. 18x8 +35

It's def narrow so I'll need spacers.
Hi - the specs on my summer and winter setup are in a previous post a bit up that page. Winters +20 offsets before spacers.

Pirelli makes a 255/35R19 and 275/35R19 270 Sottozero Serie II. The rear is an Aston Martin OE tire, so again it doesn't show a matching pair."

275/45R19 is too tall. 28.7" diameter vs stock OD of 26.3". That's a tire size for an X5, Q7, Cayenne etc.

Sorry, I wanted your input on the difference in these 3 choices. Is one set better on ice/deep snow/more performance oriented? I'm guessing I'd be leaning toward the more 'full time' snow tire, I'd rather have extra traction in snow/ice.

Thanks, looking forward to getting out there! What type of snow setup have you run on the M3 before? I've never spent a winter in Denver, not sure what to expect. I grew up in the mountains of CO, so I've seen winters, but not sure how to compare to the Denver area.

Let me know what you end up going with to replace your Blizzaks, I'll be placing an order in the next month.

Darn. Looks like I'll stick with the narrower winter rims route. Thanks again for the help, Ben. It's much appreciated.

In that size, they are all considered performance winter tires, a blend of winter traction and handling that is still somewhat sporty. The blizzak still seems to hold a little bit of an edge on the snow traction front, but the difference is not huge.

Square set-up at tirerack

Hi, I am new to the winter tire+wheels game and started at the tirerack web site.

After entering my car details (2011 M3 sedan ZCP) and selecting the 18 inch square winter set-up the only tires it shows are 235-40-18... that would just look plain weird.

I was expecting 245-40-18 or 255-40-18. Should I just disregard the web site?

Thanks.

I'm in the market for something to tide me through the wet-and-cool Seattle non-summer months. I have a set of M219's, and am thinking about DWS-06 for this. As there's not a 265/40R18 option, what are the thoughts on the ideal setup to run for this? I can go 235/40R18+255/40R18 or possibly 235/45R18+255/45R18. Would the 45 section sidewall be too tall? Any other thoughts for a good performing tire that excels in the wet, and handles occasional snow?

I run 235/45/18 Pilot Alpin PA4's all around on the winter on the oem winter wheel option (don't recall the specific #). The fronts do rub but only when in reverse at or close to full lock. When they were brand new with taller tread they would also rub the fender liners if the front suspension was completely compressed but only in the soft edc setting. I should add that my car has the competition package so it sits slightly lower. Not sure if non zcp cars would have either issue but it's nothing to be concerned about.

Great info, thanks for that. I'll definitely check the wheel-to-fender clearance on both ends to ensure that whatever I choose won't rub.

245/40/18 is pretty common for this car and maybe the best overall choice. 255/40/18 could also be used and would probably work fine. Usually they say if you are going to be driving in deep snow a narrower tire will work better. BMW's recommended size is 235/40/18, which seems a little small.

Hey Ben,

Have been considering the Alpin PA4's this year to replace my old Blizzaks on my ASA Sport Wheels. I've also used Wintersport 3D's with success as well. Which out of the 3 would you recommend for performance and snow? I live in No. VA, so we typically don't get huge snow storms. Thanks.

Among these the Pilot Alpin PA4 would have the best dry grip, handling and steering response, while the Bridgestone Blizzak LM32 seems to have the best snow and ice traction. We still like the old Dunlop Winter Sport 3D tires, but they a bit older technology and would fall just below the other two.

Thanks. I think I'll go with the Michelin's.

Hi Gary,

Is there any way to make the Michelin Alpin PA4's fit on the stock 19" wheels that an e92 m3 has? I see that the front's are available, but I'm not sure which size could fit the rears, since the 265/35 isn't available according to your site?

Thanks!

Tire size 255/35R19 Michelin PA4 will fit the front 19X9 and rear 19X10 wheels. I can't get ahold of any this season but if you're able to find them elsewhere they will fit. The Blizzak LM32 is available in from us in that size now.

Gary,
Just purchased the special 275/45/19 for my 9.5" 19 rims Rear. Currently running a stretched 255/35/19 on the 9.5" rear. I know the 45 will be tall but will I have any trouble fitting these?

Thanks.

275/45R19 is much taller than we've fit on the E90 M3 without rubbing.
