Hi I'm based in the United Kingdom and keen to get a set of APEX ARC 8,

need help deciding on either square setup

A: 17x9 ET30

or

B: 18x9 ET30


anyone tried both sizes on road/track? It's 100% for street / fun road trip driving in my case but curious to hear any track experiences.

obviously keen on the 17 inches for lighter weight vs. 18 inches.


looking at options, tyre choice in UK is limited/expensive for 17 inches.
most common size is 225/45R17 but these wheels look better with 245 & 255/40 R17 (£150-£200) Michelin PS or Goodyear Eagle F1)

tyre choice is greater on 18 inches with 245 40 R18 being quite popular and readily available (£120).

Has anyone observed the 17 inch setup is significantly better (cornering, acceleration) than 18 inch?

You're posting in the M3 section so most of these guys will be running 18s or larger in terms of diameter. The e9X non-m equivalent of this thread can be found here if you want relevant community feedback: https://www.e90post.com/forums/showt...748105&page=53

From my perspective, 17s are lighter and the wheels are cheaper, but availability in the typical sizes is really going downhill. My advice would be to select a tire you would want to run and see if it is available in the 17" sizes you want. 18s are our most commonly sold diameter for the E9X non-m chassis and still have good availability.

Considering picking up the below fitment for my winter tire set (I currently have 19” ZCP wheels/PS2s now which won’t work in northeast US winter). The ZCP package has 19x9 / 19x10 staggered setup stock and I’m curious if switching to the below (with 0.5” different between front and back) will pose any issues?

Front: 18 x 9 ET30 Tire: 245/40/18
Rear: 18 x 9.5 ET22 Tire: 255/40/18

Why would you go with stock tire sizes on wheels that are 0.5” wider front and rear than stock? I’d run 265/285. Also, why the continental ecs02? They have a 340TW rating. For a street tire, I’d recommend the Apex V601 which has a 280TW rating. I’ve used the V601 on a few cars and they’re a damn good street tire. Offsets could alter the recommended tire and tire widths.

265/35/19 will not fit in the front. It will rub - I believe this was attempted when people tried to run ZCP square wheels on OEM tire size of 265/35/19 square. Maybe 9.5" vs 10" can help but it is still a 0.5" taller tire with a more aggressive offset than OEM, while being ~0.6" further out (wheel spacing). 285/35/19 is recommended against by Slicer here: https://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1059456 I mostly anticipate the height of the tire to cause problems.

OEM GTS is 255/35/19 and 285/30/19 for reference. 255/35/19 and 275/35/19 will be more unlikely to cause issues as a bolt on fitment while mostly retaining OEM stagger. You could go down to 30 profile but then you reduce tire diameter and I'm not sure if the asker would care about the ride comfort drop from a thinner sidewall.

As for ECS02: great street tire, cheaper than PS4S, probably less performant than V601. depends on what you're looking for but I would recommend ECS02 over PS4S due to price point while checking the same boxes. I've been recommended the V601 but haven't personally used it, but did two track days on the original ECS before getting ECFs.

edit: V601 isn't available in E9x sizing for 19" besides OEM 245/35 and 265/35. https://www.tirerack.com/tires/yokohama-advan-apex-v601 I still might try it as my street tire since I see a 275/35/18 though and I'm looking to get a street wheel set...

Assumption is 275/35 is the tire of choice, just want to double check this? Car is to be daily duty with no track time, but also weekend fun car.

Will be going with PS4S and stock suspension is staying for now as well.

This setup should be great and extremely flush with this. 275/35-18 is what we recommend and should be a direct fit. Typically, we recommend the 3-5mm spacer in the front to help with aftermarket suspension. With running a 3mm spacer and stock suspension, there should be no issue.

Sweet thanks Jasper, it'll be a game time decision up front on whether to run the 3mm or not. It'll be helpful to have around regardless in case I ever go lower too.
