to me it seems the newer helmets keep getting bigger not smaller as they add padding inside. my older 2000 helmet fit fine in my e90 or at least better than my new one that was supposed to be low profile.

take off the hood, fenders, doors and drive it like a chump car if you want some weight savings beyond 10lb dumps.
