the way its setup for me is i run open class for my session, then i come in and while a run group is going out i wait 20 min then go out for the following session so i will have 20 min in between....

but i will not do it this way again in the summer months when temps are near 100deg as that was one of the reasons i totaled my e46 m3 last year.....

but its not bad if the temps are reasonable and you stay hydrated....

That practice is the norm for the two local BMWCCA groups I run with. What they typically do to help is run instructor, then advanced (then intermediate and finally novice), and so a lot of the advanced will run without instructors or get signed off pretty quick, and for intermediate and novice there's time for the instructor to get there. That said, I've definitely had some times when I'm in advanced and not signed off and been waiting the way you state.

To me It makes a difference if they are paid instruction or not also. Bmwcca isn't, is it? That quality of instruction is different from hiring someone for the day and having them at your disposal. I rarely get instruction in car but rather talk about logistics of driving and certain sections thru the day as I'm friends with most of them and call them routinely for track talk as well.(Most of my track days are done with a racing school)

I didn't freak out any of my instructors and implemented most of their tips and advice, most of that helped me to get faster (besides the track time obviously). I'm still in a learning phase so it's not boring by any means.

If the instructor is doing the right thing...they come off track early so their student doesn't miss any time.

Let's face it...there are some out there that instruct mainly for the cheaper or free track time. The focus should be on serving the HPDE organization, then the student, then yourself.

Couldn't read the link because it's subscription. Was this the incident at CMP in which a tree limb penetrated a P-car and killed Tom Norby? My instructor from two club track weekends this summer was in the car behind.
