Surprisingly.
A person admitting to being a psychopath should be locked up in a mental inst, not released in public because of his admittance.

No disrespect, but I wish this guy killed someone 2 hours south of here in NY State so you (our esteemed neighbors) could gas this waste of resources. Now I (we) have to pay to feed, clothe and house this little turd that managed to squeeze through the a$$hole of life.
Wait, that's only IF - and it's a big if - he's found Criminally Responsible. See, in Canada, you can kill your kids then drink wiper fluid in Quebec, or decapitate a young man while he's asleep on a bus in rural Manitoba. The penalty for these heinous crimes? A few years in a Psychiatric Hospital. Don't believe me? Look up Guy Turcotte and Vince Li. They're both in some stage of being released, be it court motions or escorted day-passes. It's sickening. We need to toughen up on violent crime in Canada. So, here's to hoping Magnotta's convicted and gets air-holed after a month inside. |

I (and I'm sure many Canadians) would love nothing better than to do just that. Unfortunately, our voices seem to be lost in the midst of the vegans and hippie tree huggers who want to "reform" people. So we'll probably just put him up somewhere nice on our dime and then release him back into society when he's less "mainstream" to murder again. I have no idea why we don't have the death penalty. Its so logical. However much fun I like to poke at the American neighbours to the south, at least they understand that....or at least some of the states do. |

I recently read a news article warning people that a dangerous sex offender is about to be released back to the public. We are warned that he is still dangerous, but he will be freed because he has finished serving his sentence for the previous offenses. I find that really messed up. If the authorities think this person is likely going to hurt someone else again, then they shouldn't release him. Not this "He's done his time, so he can be free and probably hurt someone again." bullshit.

There are always exceptions, there are lot of slam dunk cases like this one, Pickton, Rusell Williams...etc but you can't have one set of law for one case and another set for another case. Tit for tat never gets any thing done. |

It's bad enough that we have to trust our government to send our troops into dangerous wars that should solely be in the interest of Canadians. Also I don't believe it's fair to compare delusional killers like Vince Li to sociopaths like this guy. Don't get me wrong I'm not defending the ease of which Vince Li has been able to get freedom, it is too much too early.

Yes, a few innocent people may die, that may happen, hopefully not, but perhaps. But a lot more guilty will die than the innocent. And those guilty that die would have otherwise been freed at some point to perhaps take the life of yet another innocent...so when you add it all up, I still think the benefit is in favour of the law abiding citizens. And arguably it is cheaper on me the taxpayer which is one of my main concerns. I mean really - do you honestly think I want to pay to house a criminal that has raped and murdered some poor soul? I'm quite content with them shuffling off this mortal coil and not having to house and feed them for the next 10-15 years (funny how our government thinks that this (10-15 years) is a reasonable length of time for someone else's life). |
