It's just a guideline, a recommendation.

Yup, I'm with you, 23rd hour. ...... It's driving me nuts.
I snapped it a couple times, but only to ~6,000rpms, once maybe a little more. ![]() Roll on Monday. I got that stupid ""Service"" thing in the Cluster. What is worse is that I'm in the middle of nowhere; and they have to special order shit for the service from another Island. SA told me it takes "special" race oil etc etc. (What a load of Bollocks) ...... Don't think they have any M3's on the Island and not too many in the Canaries. The E9+ models that is. . |

I kept it under 6000 rpm for the first 600 miles, but I drove it hard during that time using a lot of engine braking. I kept it under 7000 rpm up to 1200 miles. although once I was over 1000, I did redline it a couple of times.
Not sure where the 5500 thing comes from. Certainly makes no sense from an engineering standpoint.

I can't help but wonder how much of this business about a gentle break-in is just superstition or because people have learned to expect it. I'd still go easy on a new engine, but I'd probably try what "Break-In Secrets" says, as it makes a lot of sense to me. Then again, on a performance engine like this, you'd hope anything so essential was done at the factory. |
