I'm sure someone in Europe can install an ESS kit for him
then when he comes back, he can easily sell it too. or keep it on the car for a lease transfer OR you can have TWO M3s. A coupe and a Vert or A coupe and a Sedan lol

You need to find a US insurance carrier that will cover you in europe. I can't speak for other countries but German insurance companies cannot cover your car since it doesn't have a registration. The only insurance carrier that currently does this is USAA. Geico used to cover cars as recently as 2010, but they have changed their policy this year. I have a friend that shipped his GTR in 2010 to europe for 3 months. I can put in touch with him however I also have 3 friends with GT3's that attempted to come out this past summer and couldn't get an insurance company willing to cover them. None of them were military so couldn't get USAA.

As for insurance, it is really no problem to get insurance over here...however, the minimun coverage is $10,000,000. Yes, you read that right...10 Million dollars (7,000,000 Euros) That about blew my mind when I found out. I plan on ramming my car into a Bugatti Veyron factory before I leave so I can make good on that coverage. Chartis insurance is the company I currently go with.

Even better: Sell the car in Germany after your trip. I often thought about that, but cannot do it, you have to live in the U.S. to do European Delivery. The basic idea is to NOT ship the car. This incurs a fee of 19% of the selling price, because the VAT has to be paid if the car does not leave the country. However, the US M3 price is way less that the price here in Germany. I bet you could drive the car for free for half a year.
