They're retractable with the cold weather pack.

source? My 08 has cold weather pack, and they are not retractable. If you're correct, when did that change? part of LCI?

sorry to thread jack OP, but I think this ties into your concern, assuming you're worried about sightliness...

I really dislike them..

When I'm leaving my garage and my windshield is dirty, it sprays all over the hood if the auto lights are on.

But I have coded mine off in the software so they are disabled

I have the same ones pictured. As far as I know, they don't retract, which is my Mkoesel was saying it's likely incorrect. I was wondering because on the BYO site, it shows a non-M E90 headlight with a retracting washer, such that it ends up flush with the bumper and out of sight. It would be nice if ours was out of site, since we never really use them.

So this is what my headlight washers look like:

and here's what the BYO site shows for the 2011 M3 with the CWP.

The site is incorrect. They all look like mine, right?

Yes - all options/packages except DCT and Sunroof. Must have been part of LCI then, because the black one pictured is not retractable.

I'm in boston and I used them a lot last winter. its kinda annoying when they spray all over your hood but then again, when its 5 degrees out snowing, doesnt really matter

found a way to somewhat turn them off. if your automatic lights are off to the 'O' position, then you spray washers, the headlamp ones dont go off

So there you go: BMW is falsely asserting that they are retractable on the M3, and picturing a Non-M retractable washer, WHEN IN FACT, they are not retractable. WACK.

It could also be misleading, as maybe it does retract, and that's the position it retracts to...

Again, never really noticed it and probably wouldn't have ever bothered to care if I didn't read the forums... haha... *Added to the list along side orange peel*

Mine looks like that guys black m3 in that pic posted on this same page. they just kinda sit there. just went to the car and tried moving them and theyre attached to the bumper. theyre definitely not retractable. we also have a Merc sl500 and those washers are retractable. they have a rectangular cutout in front of the headlights and they pop up and spray the washer fluid then go back to be flush. my m3 ones arent flush they poke out and are always there

Okay, so I forgot they were indeed retractable on the E9x 3 series still - just not the E9x M3 anymore (unless it is a coupe/convertible vs. sedan thing... hmm).

Either way, as you point out, the BMW web site implies that they are retractable on the 2011 E92 M3 specifically, which we all know is 100% wrong.

Guys there is only one type of headlight washer for each car. Don't confuse the issue. They are either retractable or not - there is no special upgrade to get retractable ones vs. non-retractable ones. The only possibilities are: it varies by body style (somewhat likely), varies by model year (less likely), or your two are mistaken (pretty likely, IMHO).

Come to think of it, the sedan has the same front bumper as the coupe/convertible, so it doesn't make sense that they'd have different washers. So rule that one out too.

WRT to OP's question, I don't mind them. I really like them actually.. extremely handy in Alberta winters... which understandably most of you don't have to worry about.

Back on topic, I think it's great for Snowy, wintery areas - could be very beneficial on an SUV. On an M3, not so much - unless you plan on getting stuck in that huge snow storm

I've seen cars with wipers on the headlights, again great for heavy snow storms. Nothing I plan to drive my M3 in.

Actually, the hatch comes with or without the winter package. All you get with the winter package is the ski bag.

That is the reason why I just ordered heated seat instead of getting the cold package. There were more complains than praise. I had a couple of cars with it and I didn't like it. It is just me, of course.

BMW also says ZCP wheels are forged, and they simply are not.
