No, the GTS tune will not affect smog. Smog only reads ECU data, transmission EGS module is not read during this process

It has nothing to do with the DME. You update the DKG module not the DME.
It is only a soft brick and is recoverable if that happens. With a tuner cable, this does not happen, and you should have a backup of your stock tune to restore to anyways.
