how do you inspect bearings without taking the bottom end apart?

how do you inspect bearings without taking the bottom end apart?

I will be taking the bottom end apart to replace the oil pan. I'll remove one rod cap, top and bottom, most likely cylinder 4 since usually the worst. If it's fine I'll just put it back. If bad I'll replace all.
