Resurrecting a thread from the dead - but this was immensely useful in 2026 - thank you OP!
I had the exact same issue as OP - front pan drain plug over torqued and I stripped it. In 2026 - the new version of the speedout extractors can be found at your favored local DIY store - these are now $15 and did the job perfectly. While I had the rear sump draining I ran out and grabbed a set Same as OP - you only need the largest extractor. And you only need the conical side. I did the same initial step, used a drill to initially hold the extractor and align the conical end with the stripped drain plug. A few turns and it began to grab (just by hand, not powering the drill). At this point I removed the drill, with the extractor stuck in the drain plug. I moved to step 2 but struggled with using an adjustable wrench - what I found worked an absolute treat was a (deep-ish) 9mm socket. This fits pretty perfectly over the extractor and lets you use a long ratchet + any attachments. Some absolute f****r must have used a breaker bar to torque the front drain plug because I couldn't believe how much force I had to use to crack it. 45min oil change turned into a several hour escapade but no harm no foul, it's done now. Only problem I have is the stripped drain bolt is now completely fused to the extractor ![]()
