I got a quote of $400 to do this job from a reputable tech on his day off. Does that seem reasonable? I think that's steep, so an oil stained piece of cardboard remains under my dif. However, beer and pizza will be made available to anyone who'd like to volunteer their time!

That's very reasonable for the job. There is a lot of peripheral work to just access the part. I wouldn't want to do it for less. You might can get it cheaper by some shade tree, but an off duty tech doing it would be preferable.

I just did this! I bought all seals and fluids through FCP Euro ($130) and took my car to EAS in Anaheim, CA for labor (3 hrs of labor). Price varies. I believe they charge $150/hr if I'm not mistaken. Ask for Brandon and let him know M3talllic sent you. They may hook you up

To anyone that has DIY'ed this, what did you use to drive the new seal back into place? I'd rather not pay $70 for the Miller 8891 seal installer that I'm only going to use once. Any cheap/easy/reliable alternative options are appreciated!

I suppose you could rent them out to others, but not many work on their own cars and those that do probably know they can do the job without those tools.

Valid point. Now that I have the replacement seal in hand for sizing I plan on making a seal install tool using PVC. Once I get around to actually doing the DIY I'll share what I ended up making.

Check eBay, I bought it for 30 shipped and have used it several times for a variety of projects.
