That is a terrible idea and not how you would properly diagnose an alternator.

Yep, good times. Battery cable recall. $0.

What caused the spin? Sounded like the brakes locked up and lack of ABS made it slide? Talk about unexpected. Glad you didn't get into an accident there.

My car hasn't been listed in the recall for this - although the one that just came out for the blower motor connection I? experienced years ago and it melted like crazy.

Always something...

I think it was the amount of brake pressure I used and the steering input into the turn. I remember being bewildered at the slow spin and lack of power, and I think the lack of ABS locked up my rear tires because they're slightly flatspotted from this incident.

Was lucky I was on a cooldown lap and it was at the end of the main straight. All my gauges were frozen - 100 mph. About 10 minutes the power came back on right after the tow truck started coming down to get me, and I was able to drive back into the pitlane.

Update: car is finally working. When i took off the alternator i inspected the voltage regulator brushes and they were bad (short and worn out). So i replaced it with a good working volt regulator with good long brushes and it fixed it.
