*Sorry, for all reasonable purposes, means joining an empty motorway and accelerating to about 120kph on our way back from mountain biking...btw...actual racing on the road is for crazies....and thats why I do regular track days.

E36 M3 vs Tuned 335D
since we have already established the 335D beats the E92 M3 I guess this establishes that we need to dump our E92s for E36s! Last edited by dadealus; 02-09-2012 at 05:07 AM.. |

What do you mean by heavily modded? Because to me a supercharger on our M3 is heavily modifying it. Most supercharged M3's will smoke a 335...

some threads in here will never cease to amaze me...
i guess that's what happens when a car has been out for 4+ years and every serious / relevant issue / comparo / design flaw / etc... has been beaten to death... |

Guy was super serious too. Thought I was an idiot for buying an M3 cause his was better for way less money. He put an M badge just to the left of the 335d emblem. That was my first impression that I was dealing with a poser.

Sure, but how're you going to get to 414 from 265 with a tune? We're talking about more than 50% increase. You just can't do that without changing bunch of parts. Even then, M3 has shorter gear ratios which will keep it up on the rev range, hence power band.

Haha sure, tune, nos, bring it on. You'll beat the M3, but then you'll beat the crap out of your engine as well

the gearing is horrible in the 335d, that's why it will only run 13.8s at 102 mph-ish in 1/4 mile. And on the track, give me a break, that baby weighs more than the M3 and has 335 suspension.

Honestly, if i had the ability to turn my M3 into a 335D for the street, and push a button and have it turn into a M3 for the track, I'd do it I had a 335D for a couple weeks and I was in love. Since I'm the type that rarely takes his M over 3-4k RPM on the street, 6kish on the freeway, the 335D is the best commuter car for me. I barely had to touch the throttle and I'd be able to do 60-80 passes on the highway etc while getting close to 30MPG! I only get about 18MMPG in my M3 Before you guys say I don't drive my M3 "right" or"the way it was designed" etc.... I track 2-3 times a month, more than enough (for me) to get my speed fix There's no denying that a 335D is a better DD/commuter car. o and with a tune... I could see a 335D beating a decently modified M3 (Xpipe, filter, pulley, no FI...) This being only a straight line 'race' without really reaching high speeds As with a JB4, you can gain about 60hp and 100 torque on the 335D. Amazing what ~$300 can do to that car
