One thing I didn't see called out here, is there is supposed to be some sealant applied where the cam cover meets the cylinder head, on both sides.

I believe you are correct. Thanks for the write up OP. Is it really necessary to change the timing cover gaskets? I've had the parts for about a year now and finally going to tackle the job. On previous DIYs there was no mention of these gaskets.

You are correct nothing on the gasket. I only used Drei Bond in the valve cover rails to fill in any pitting from removing the factory coating

As for the timing gasket, once squeezed it pushes its sealant up in that area circled above. It mates with the gasket. No need to apply anything if you are changing your timing gasket |

Hey guys, having trouble sourcing the last couple of plug tubes. Read about a bloke who simply replaced the o-rings instead, better availability (+ $5 per tube vs $25).
Searching aorund ut can't find any confirmation on the size. BMW sell separate o-rings for their smaller engines but obviously decided that M3 owners can afford buying the whole thing. Anyone with insight on the S65 o-rings? |

This is a 50/50 shot, but I think this is the o-ring size around the tubes: https://www.bimmerworld.com/Cooling/...QaAnNLEALw_wcB

The link btw seems to point at the o-rings for the thermostat pipes, but thanks anyway. |

I know they are, but they really might be the same size as the ones on the tube. Only one way to find out haha

Getting ready for the job. Going to order parts soon. Mine are leaking but not super terribly. Also I’m wondering if it’s ok to go for the cheaper victor reinz gasket along with the Elrin timing cover gasket just to save a few bucks
So parts needed will be 1 Drei Bond 07589062376 1 Engine Valve Cover Gasket BMW-11127838271 1 Engine Valve Cover Gasket BMW-11127838272 8 Spark Plug Tube BMW-11127835170 24 Valve Cover Bolt 11127841217 2 valve cover bolts 11127841218 4 Cam Sensor seal 13627796699 4 Cam Sensor bolt 11417526315 - are these really necessary? 2 each Crank Case Vent Seal 11157838370 2 oil separator seal BMW-11157838369 2 Engine Timing Cover Gasket BMW-11127838162 I searched a couple resellers.
