I remember speaking to my parts guy who found only one somewhere in the US. The price was over $4k retail.

If in fact BMW decided to make changes since I last searched for this exhaust 2 months ago, perhaps that explains availability, or lack thereof.

I highly doubt any significant performance gains, it's not a full system - just a muffler in essence with a few lbs of weight savings. Total waste of money.

If the facts bear this out then this is a ridiculously overpriced product. I was really hoping for a performance gain / smog legal (is that even possible?) OEM exhaust option.

$3.5k for a muffler is almost obscene... of course the akra slip-on is about that much i guess

Yea, I want to see GOLFRR's price before I decide. I like it keep things OEM, since I am not a track guy or anything, but I would love a more aggressive sound.

Assuming this is basically bolt-on, or at least as easy as an akra slip-on, would all the warranty stuff still apply if I do-it-myself in the garage?

^^^Ill find all this stuff out as soon as we hear more info on it. Ill make sure to talk to our service director and find out all the info on warranty. Since its not aftermarket but OEM I dont see any issues with it voiding the warranty however you might have to have it documented that it was installed by a certified BMW installer like the 335 performance exhaust. But who knows, ill def find out for you.

If that is the case for 335i exhaust, why would it be different for an M3?

of course they want it installed at your dealership... more business into the BMW machine

Judging off the past BMW performance parts i would imagine this will be the same like you said. There will be minimal gains and advantages of upgrading to this exhaust from your stock exhaust however where BMW is banking on is end users who A. want to have a little more aggressive sound and power but dont want to void the warranty, B. BMW Fan Boys/Girls.

But who knows? no one, it could be some insane exhaust that comes out that is ground breaking you never know. I am always hopeful

I believe that if your exhaust upgrade is bolt-on, your warranty is still cool. No difference whether it's this or, say, Eisenmann.

ive spoken to my SA about this...even if ur exhaust is "bolt-on" it doesnt matter...the shop foreman can still flag your car when you go in for regular service as "modified exhaust." They are not going to look under your car to determine if you have a cat-back bolt on or full system with xpipes and such...Once u get flagged in the system, and say your o2 sensors go bust or something with the engine, they can blame your exhaust (Bolt-on) for anything like citing incorrect backpressure caused this and that...and so on...then, the burden of proof will be on your shoulders to prove that your bolt on did not cause the fault....my SA told me, recently they had an e92m3 come in for an oil change. the customer had a remus rear section and the foreman flagged the car when he saw it pull in....supposedly, BMW is requiring the techs to report mods, and if they dont, they can get in trouble if the regional guy happens to be at the dealer....they are just doing their job, i suppose.

Thanks for this new pic. It looks nice but I wouldn't pay this amount for an exhaust.

I was too lazy to look up the spelling for "Inconel"

Inconel is a super bad-ass metal even cooler than Titanium. I heard the exhaust this at the Rolex 24, the BMW rep started the car and reved on it for me. It was nice.

from wikipedia: Inconel is a registered trademark of Special Metals Corporation that refers to a family of austenitic nickel-chromium-based superalloys.[1] Inconel alloys are typically used in high temperature applications. It is often referred to in English as "Inco" (or occasionally "Iconel"). Common trade names for Inconel include: Inconel 625, Chronin 625, Altemp 625, Haynes 625, Nickelvac 625 and Nicrofer 6020.[2]

Nice exhaust but:
-comes late
-should have been STANDARD on every M3

Hope the next M3 will come with a cool "AMG" exhaust, including the four logos, of M of course.

Yeah, you never know, it's good to be hopeful, unfortunately I've been driving BMWs for too many years to know how they work

Here's a diagram of the Sport Exhaust from realoem, this was the exhaust my parts guy found 2 months ago for $4k+ (I think he quoted $4,400). This, I believe, is the same exhaust we saw on the car photographed at the Paris auto show. Basically a muffler, painted black, made of Inconel.

Thanks Jimmy. For sure...I can't wait. I was actually driving behind my car the other day( wife was driving it) and as soft as she was on the gas, I thought she was pressing it pretty hard just listening to the stock sound. Then she told me she never went past 3k rpm. Mann the stock sounds dam good. I just néed it amplified a bit!
