Mileage
I get 19-20 on trips with fairly constant speeds at up to 80 mph; I've seen 22-23 taking it easier. Commuting (suburban-urban) I average 16.

I'm getting 12mpg for mixed city and highway (mostly city though)
Despite that, the car is totally daily drive friendly.

The only reason I got an M3 was because it could be a daily driver. Otherwise I would have gotten a 911 or a Corvette.

The gas consumption is low thanks to the V8, but it's worth it. How would you folks compare the 650i's V8 with the M3's V8? I mean the 650i does have 60 more torques.

My experience exactly, even the city driving. I think perhaps we two might have a bit lighter foot the some other drivers.

I don't know why anybody wouldn't consider the M3 as a daily driver. About the only cars I wouldn't consider as a daily would be a Lambo or Ferrari, I think a Pcar Turbo could be a daily too.

If you can afford it do it. The only reason not to would be the bad gas mileage of the car. Also if youre putting alot of miles onto the car, a 70k dollar daily driver with high mileage deprecates very quickly. My office is only 10 miles from my home. I put maybe 8k miles a year on my M3.

Have had my 2008 E93 M3 for just about a year and a half now. Has been (and continues to be) my daily driver. Drive an average of 90 miles per day, and have been averaging 18.8 MPG.
I've got a little over 27,000 miles on her now. I moved up to the M3 from a 2004 E46 330Ci and am surprised at how rock-solid and reliable the car has been. I assumed stepping into a high-performance single-purpose* V8 would be fraught with the potential for mechanical issues, but none have materialized (knock wood). The car just goes and goes. *= I say single-purpose, since the S65 was purpose-built for the M3 and is used exclusively in the M3 range. My 330Ci engine was used across the entire BMW range, as is the current 300hp engine in the 335i.

e90 M3 is my daily and I think it's the best daily car with the mix of performance, comfort and luxury. Only negative side is that the gas mileage is a little high if you drive aggressive most of the time. I get 12s per gallon average

I pay $3,240 a year for a reserved indoor ground floor garage space downtown. It's worth it to me. Parking on the street, the tilt down right mirror is a wheel saver, for sure.

I spend most of my time in "the other BMW Forum" and on Planet Porsche (Cayman Club). Stop by here periodically.
I sponsored an event at Lime Rock for the Cayman Club a few weeks ago. They just replaced the 2009 M5 Pace Car with a new M3 (DCT). I didn't get to drive it but I did a few 'Hot Laps" with one of the coaches. It was pretty exciting but as a track car I will stick with the Spec Miata. CA |
